Evil Dead Preview
For a film franchise that hasn’t seen a new instalment in almost 20 years, Evil Dead seems to be getting a lot of facetime on the App Store lately. First we had Backflip Studios’ castle defense take on the third film, Army of Darkness Defense. Now we’re about to be treated to a hack’n’slash retelling of the movie that started it all, courtesy of Trigger Apps.

Evil Dead brings the boomstick back to the App Store this June
For a film franchise that hasn’t seen a new instalment in almost 20 years, Evil Dead seems to be getting a lot of facetime on the App Store lately. First we had Backflip Studios’ castle defense take on the third film, Army of Darkness Defense. Now we’re about to be treated to a hack’n’slash retelling of the movie that started it all, courtesy of Trigger Apps.
When Evil Dead was announced for iOS last fall, excitement ran high amongst fans in the horror community. Would this be an adventure game? An action game? A match-3 with elements of dog grooming? The trailer did a great job of giving nothing away, yet it managed to rev us all up with the promise of Evil Dead goodness in our pocket regardless of the genre. Now Trigger Apps has finally let the cat out of the bag, and Evil Dead will most definitely be an action experience.
A top down shooter at its heart, Evil Dead will let gamers play through the original film’s plot across 30 levels. Series protagonist Ash Williams will battle his way through an army of Deadites using axes, boomsticks, chainsaws and more. The developers are also promising boss fights and “so much gore you literally have to wipe it off your screen.”

When we asked Backflip Studios’ Julian Farrior last month what he thought about two Evil Dead games hitting the App Store around the same time, he said “you can never have too many Bruce Campbell lines,” and we’re inclined to agree.
Ash fans won’t have too long to wait for this one. Trigger Apps has told Gamezebo that Evil Dead is expected to hit the App Store for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch this June.
