Foursaken Media, best known for games like Bug Heroes 2 and Block Fortress: War, have announced their next big project. It’s called Phantom Rift, and it’s coming this Fall.

Described as an adventure-RPG, players will control a wizard that they customize to their liking with equipment of various rarities and passive abilities. The combat system takes place on a 6×3 grid, where players move from square to square on their half of the board, unleashing attacks based on a deck of various spells.

It sounds to us like a revival of the Mega Man Battle Network series, Capcom’s action-RPGs on Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS. And that’s a very good thing.

There will be a total of 120 spells, with various elemental effects that may wind up weakening or strengthening enemies.

The game will feature online multiplayer as well, where while exploring the world players can battle with other players they come across. Victors will be rewarded of one of the opponent’s spells, though there’s no permanent loss of any spells for losing.

Phantom Rift is planned for September, and will be a paid game, though pricing is still being sorted out. The game will release on iOS and Android, and considering how much fun Mega Man Battle Network was, there’s plenty of reason to get excited for this one.
