Puzzle platforming with a splash of colour

The puzzle-platformer parade is about to get a little more colorful with the upcoming release of Colour Bind, a 2D driving game based on colored gravity that’s hard to describe, and even harder to play.

Each screen in Colour Bind is filled with numerous objects of strange shapes and colors that represent how it interacts with gravity: blue objects might fall down when hit, for instance, while red objects may fall to the left. Your vehicle, a moon buggy-type contraption with inflatable tires that give it the ability to jump, also has a color, and will behave accordingly.

The name of the game is to make your way to the end-point of each level, a process complicated not only by the aforementioned gravity issues but also by switches that open doors and change the direction of gravity, and beams that change the color of whatever touches them – including your vehicle – and therefore how they interact with the world.

Colour Bind

Colour Bind isn’t much to look at, but what it lacks in fine graphics, it promises to make up for with devious, challenging gameplay. The action starts off simply enough but the it doesn’t stay that way for long, according to the developer, who said that it will require puzzle-solving and platforming skills in equal measure – and probably a whole lot of patience too. Online leaderboards will allow you to compare your efforts with the rest of the world, and you’ll also be able to play cooperatively with others and even create and share your own levels with a built-in editor.

Oh, and one more thing: He’s apparently Australian, so it is in fact “Colour Bind” and not “Color Bind.” That’s just how they roll Down Under.

Colour Bind is currently expected to come out in mid-September for the PC (Windows and Linux) and Mac.
