If you’re the sort of gamer who constantly finds yourself saying, “Sheesh, there need to be more MSORLARPG’s,” I’ve got some great news for you.
Butterscotch Shenanigans, the bros behind Quadropus Rampage and Towelfight, (they’re actually brothers, I’m not just being hip), is currently in the Alpha stages of development on their massively single-player online rogue-lite action role-playing game, Narwhal Online.
In Narwhal Online players will battle their way through rooms of enemies, working towards the global goal of unlocking more content to play through.
As the fencing champions of the ocean, the Narwhal was the perfect candidate to fight back against the nasty-looking Chik’Rub creatures that are quickly taking over the oceans. As a narwhal hero, players will head into the lair of the Chik’Rub in an attempt to slay as many of the creatures as possible before eventually being slain themselves.
The further the player gets, the more Chik’Rub juice they collect, which is then tallied up into their faction’s global total at the end of their run. The factions are simply color variations, but the faction that has collected the most juice does benefit from a 10% increase in damage output.
Recently, Butterscotch Shenanigans recruited players for early Alpha testing. Those interested in learning more should follow the developers on Twitter, and keep an eye on the game’s website.
The team of brothers is also busy working on the ButterscotchID system, which brings all their games together in one, uniform system, which is to be made available in every one of their games. Using a ButterscotchID (BSID) account, users can keep track of Butterscotch Shenanigan’s upcoming games, as well as getting updates on changes to released games. Friends lists and messaging is also available to BSID users, as is cross-game achievements which reward players with special content for doing something impressive in another Butterscotch-made game.
“[We] want to see something different on mobile. Games you can feel like you own a piece of, and that follow you from device to device. And because you believe that the games you play actually have value, and that the developers behind them, human as they are, should make a few bucks for their efforts,” Butterscotch Shenanigans explained on their website.
No word yet on when Narwhal Online is expected to release or for what platforms, though the alpha was available on Android and PC.
