When Bad Piggies was revealed earlier this month, Rovio decided to take the cryptic route. All we really had to go on was an announcement that it wouldn’t be anything like a traditional Angry Birds game. Today, the developer is breaking their silence, bombarding the world with all the details and info they could hope for.

While “physics-puzzler” could describe this game just as well as it could Angry Birds, the similarities stop there. In Bad Piggies, players construct and navigate vehicles, the goal being to reach the eggs located at the end of each level. Every vehicle shown in the trailer looks downright goofy, and it’s clear that’s where much of the game’s charm will come from. It turns out pigs aren’t the best of engineers.

Conceptually, the game doesn’t look to be as accessible as Angry Birds. After all, what’s easier to understand than slingshotting birds into makeshift constructions filled with pigs? But if the building portion shown in the trailer is anything to go by, Rovio is taking steps to ensure that people don’t have trouble understanding how the game works. And honestly, less accessible or not, the chance to build whatever vehicles we like will probably give the game a lot of lasting power.

The game will release on Mac, iOS and Android September 27, with plans for Windows Phone, Windows 8 and PC versions to come at a later date. I wouldn’t be surprised if the game ended up on way more platforms than those, though.

Hog heaven is upon us.

The rivalry between bird and pig depicted in Angry Birds is one of the most heated in all of video games. And with the word “Angry” in the title, it isn’t so surprising. But is it all just one big misunderstanding? Are the pigs as devious as they seem? With the upcoming Bad Piggies, that’s a question Rovio is ready to answer.

The game will be coming to iOS, Android and Mac on September 27, with a release on Windows Phone, Windows 8 and PC following sometime after. Beyond that, there’s very little we know. Rovio hasn’t revealed what kind of game Bad Piggies is, exactly, but they have stated that it won’t be a physics puzzler like Angry Birds. So, by process of elimination, we can conclude that it will be a dating sim with elements of Sudoku.

“There’s a lot of empathy towards the lovable enemies from the Angry Birds games, and we’ve been constantly asked: what about the pigs’ side of the story?” Rovio CEO Mikael Hed said in a press release. “Bad Piggies gives you the chance to play as the second-most-loved characters in the Angry Birds universe, and explore this rich world through their green eyes.”

We’ll be sure to provide you with new information as it’s provided, such as why there appears to be an intoxicated Angry Bird on the game’s homepage. These are the hard-hitting questions we’re ready to answer.
