While we were sleeping, another Assassin’s Creed game slipped out into the world. It moved silently and unpredictably, like one of those – you know, one of those guys that do the whole cloak and dagger thing and dart in and out of shadows. What are they called?

Oh yeah. Milkmen.

In all seriousness, last night Assassin’s Creed Identity received an Australian soft launch for iPhone and iPad. Players can customize their very own assassin and send them out to play in the Italian Renaissance era. As fans well know, we visited the Renaissance in 2009’s Assassin’s Creed II. Sometimes it’s worth vacationing twice in the same area (or era), though. Draw this, Mr da Vinci.

Assassin's Creed Identity

Assassin’s Creed Identity is a 3D action-RPG that utilizes touch-screen controls. Players romp around in open sandbox levels, and friends can help you out if a particular throat is proving awfully tough to slit on your own. There are items to collect and assemble, and lots of customization options for your assassins (you’re allowed to have up to two).

The game also appears to push mobile tech to its limit, as the game’s App Store page warns it won’t work on iPhone 4S or below, iPad 2 or below, or iPod 5. According to information obtained by ImpulseGamer, Assassin’s Creed Identity will receive a worldwide launch sometime in 2015, so maybe it will incorporate “newer-older” devices by that point.

If you’re a real or honourary Aussie, you can download Assassin’s Creed Identity for free from the App Store. If you’d rather spectate for now, TouchGameplay recently uploaded some game footage.
