Anomaly: Warzone Earth Preview

At a glance, Anomaly: Warzone Earth might look like little more than yet another tower defense game making its way to the App Store. Looks, however, can be deceiving. There may be towers, and they may be firing on a marching army – but this time that army is controlled by you.

Anomaly: Warzone Earth will turn the tower defense genre inside out.

At a glance, Anomaly: Warzone Earth might look like little more than yet another tower defense game making its way to the App Store. Looks, however, can be deceiving. There may be towers, and they may be firing on a marching army – but this time that army is controlled by you.

Anomaly: Warzone Earth is set to turn the tables on the tower defense genre, placing players in control of the scurrying hordes as you try to navigate your way past deadly alien defenses. The year is 2018, and giant mechanical war machines are popping up all over the world. Your mission begins as your squad crosses into Baghdad, a city under siege by said machines.

The gameplay in Anomaly: Warzone Earth is set to blend elements of action and strategy as players will issue orders, manage squad tactics, and use special abilities to support their squad during combat. Rather than unleashing wave after wave of soldiers, players will be restricted to a single squad comprised of six units. This means you’ll need to be strategic about which units to purchase for the mission at hand.

The core appeal of Anomaly: Warzone Earth may lay in its 14-mission campaign, but developer 11 bit studios is promising two additional challenge modes to keep gamers playing endlessly.

Strategy gamers can look forward to getting their first taste of Anomaly: Warzone Earth in the coming months, as the game is scheduled to hit the App Store for both the iPhone and iPad during the first quarter of 2011. A PC version is expected to arrive at the same time.
