The ‘Terrific Train’ of 2015 had no problems pulling into the mobile games station once again this September. Building on an already spectacular year, this month saw even more great games from the industry’s top talents.

For example:

Land Sliders

We’ve said “new studio from the folks who brough you Fruit Ninja and Jetpack Joyride” until we’re blue in the face, but that doesn’t make it any less significant. And frankly, it just means the pressure was on to perform. As it turns out, the magic and charm they’d brought to their former employer wasn’t left in the office. Land Sliders is a game about moving the world around a variety of folks to guide them to the things they love the most. But to do that, you’ll need to dodge everything from cactus-backed turtles to angry bulls.

Call of Champions

Call of Champions review

With the exception of Vainglory, MOBAs have had a really hard time on mobile. Call of Champions decided to try something new: rethinking the genre with the attention span and accessibility concerns of mobile gamers in mind. And it’s worked incredibly well. Call of Champions is a streamlined, five minute game of team combat and battlefield control.

Shooty Skies

shooty skies

What Crossy Road did for Frogger, Shooty Skies does for shmups. Take to the skies as a kitty (and later, so many other things) as you shoot a sky full of baddies, earn coins, and unlock critters.

SPL-T

Don’t let its simple visuals fool you — the first mobile puzzler from Simogo (aka the narrative masterminds behind Device 6 and The Sailor’s Dream), is addictive, approachable, and downright difficult. Split boxes until their numbers tick down to zero and clear out some more space, and don’t let the screen fill up as you do.

Magic Flute

A puzzle game based on a Mozart opera (you read that right), Magic Flute is an absolute joy for enthusiasts of environmental puzzlers. If you dug Monument Valley, you’ll want to pick this up.

HoPiKo

hopiko

Trapped somewhere between a high speed platformer and an avoidance game, HoPiKo challenges players to navigate and dodge through a CPU world as they try to fix the blinking red light on their damned Nintendo.

Dungeon Boss

Dungeon Boss review

Dungeon Boss isn’t the first game about collecting heroes and delving into dungeons, but it’s one of the best. Gorgeous, challenging, and — above all — fair, it’s an easy recommendation for any fans of the genre.

Lifeline 2

lifeline 2

Dave Justus and 3 Minute Games created a fantastic new formula for gamebook fans earlier this year with the release of Lifeline, a story played out in real-time about a stranded astronaut who would send you text messages. For the sequel, they’ve left the stars behind and are telling a tale of earthbound revenge.
