As the year winds down and the holidays are upon us, the downpour of new releases is turning into a trickle. That’s not to say that there aren’t still great games releasing each week — there are just fewer of them.
Still, that didn’t stop November from rocking our socks with a handful of great titles. For example:
It might not break much new ground in the world of free-to-play RPGs, but what it does, it does incredibly well. By offering a huge variety of characters that all feel and play differently, a wide variety of modes, and countless things to unlock, EA have tapped into something primal in our little gamer souls.
Puzzle fans have been madly in love with Fireproof Games’ The Room series for years now, and the third iteration might just be the biggest yet. What’s more, this is a series that’s clearly learned from its past releases. The Room Three adds some new twists to the formula, but never at the expense of what you love about it.
While bold and daring in what it tried to accomplish, the original Real Boxing from 2012 was something of a train wreck in our eyes. But developer Vivid Games have proven that it’s never too late for a second round knockout. Focused on the sport (rather than a gimmicky method of input), Real Boxing 2 might just be the best boxing game on the App Store and Google Play.
Think you’re good at old school platformers? Think again. Super Dangerous Dungeons lives up to its name, and after a few introductory levels, your skills will be pushed to the limit. It’s the sort of game that demands perfect play if you want to survive — and if you do, the next challenge is to survive faster than you did before. Speedrunning FTW.
There are a lot of card games on the App Store to pick from, so it takes something really special to stand out. Mabinogi Duel is that something special. The card play is unique and compelling, and the focus is on a single player story-driven campaign. The only thing holding it back? It’s needlessly gratuitous portrayal of women. The only thing animated on any of the cards are boobs. What’s up with that?
How do you make a sequel to a top notch RPG that was also a parody of top notch RPGs? By refining the combat system and giving it a shiny new 16-bit coat of paint. For JRPG enthusiasts, this one is not to be missed.
