January has flashed past in the blink of an eye. It feels like only a couple of days ago we were writing up our best of 2020 lists, and now the first chunk of 2021 has been devoured by the ever ravenous maw of time. Anyway, enough maudlin remembrance, it’s time to look at the best games that came out for mobile this month.

Rivengard

Another smart, tactical gacha RPG. This one takes the shape of a TRPG, then squishes it down into delicious, bite-sized chunks. It’s fast, it’s fun and it’s super addictive. There’s a lot of game to love here, and some bright ideas that are going to keep you intrigued. Throw in a solid story and you’re on to a winner.

Dadish 2

A tough platformer that sees you playing a radish. Your kids have decided to come and visit you at work and you need to find them all and get them home safely. This is a game with a massive heart and some really funny moments. It’s also going to challenge your fingers to get past some really tricky leaping sections.

Erica – Interactive Thriller

This one’s a super cool looking FMV adventure that raked in a lot of accolades when it come out on PS4 last year. It tells the story of a young woman who’s plagued with nightmares. You decide what to do, what to say and who to trust. There are multiple endings waiting to be discovered as well.

It starts off simple, but before long you’re going to be scratching your head hard and deep as you try and figure out how to get the picnic food to the picnic blanket. Basketball vs Zombies

Here we have a fast-paced arcade game that sees you whomping the heads off of zombies with a variety of weapons. The twist is you need to send those heads spinning into a basket to score points. It’s every bit as bonkers as it sounds. You can read our review here to find out more.

This one sees you fighting it out in little arenas. You need to collect orbs to power up your moves, then use them at just the right time to hit your opponent. It’s fast, it’s frantic and you’re going to cheer with delight when you win. You can check out our review for even more info.

Onmyoji: The Card Game

A deck builder spin-off from Onmyoji. Build up a deck and take on all comers in quick-fire but super tactical duels. There are loads of cards to collect and a lot to learn – this isn’t one for the faint of heart, but if you put the work in you’re going to find an amazing and in-depth experience.

Yankai’s Diamond

Any game that describes itself as a love-letter to diamonds – the shapes, not the gems – is okay in our book. This puzzler is super smart, super soothing and packed full of content. If you’re looking for a premium puzzler to pass some time with, we’d highly recommend picking this one up.

The Pillar

A gorgeous-looking escape puzzler. You’re trapped on an island and you need to explore, discover its secrets and solve a series of fiendish logic puzzles and riddles to get to safety. It’s big, it’s fun and, since a lot of us can’t get to escape rooms right now, it’s a great way to scratch that itch.
