The 10 Best Apple Arcade Games of 2021
It’s the end of the year, so that means it’s time to take a long hard look back at the games that have come out over the last twelve months and make some tough decisions about which ones were the best. This time round we’re looking at the best games that have come out for Apple Arcade.

It’s the end of the year, so that means it’s time to take a long hard look back at the games that have come out over the last twelve months and make some tough decisions about which ones were the best. This time round we’re looking at the best games that have come out for Apple Arcade.
We’ve tried to avoid picking + versions of games, and instead focused on new releases. That hasn’t been entirely possible, but we think we’ve done our best all the same. There have been some absolute gems on Apple Arcade this year, but we’re still not entirely sure the service has lived up to its massive potential.
You can click on the names of the games below to download them from the App Store – you’ll need an Apple Arcace account to play them, obviously – and if you’ve got your own favorites be sure to let us know in the comments section below.
Oceanhorn: Chronos Dungeon
A dungeon-crawling hack-and-slash adventure with more than a few interesting twists. Playing on your own it’s pretty good, but when you add some friends into the mix in co-op mode, it takes on a life all of its own.
Cozy Grove
Spry Fox brings its inimical charm to Apple Arcade with this delightful game about discovering ghosts on a strange and ever-changing island. It’s the kind of game you’ll want to play while wrapped in a blanket and sipping a warm beverage of your choice.
Hitchhiker
Travel along the roads of America, discover a strange story and a cast of characters with plenty to share. After a while reality starts to warp around you, and you’ll start questioning everything. This is a smart, engaging mystery that you can’t help but get swept up in.
Fantasian
A wonderful, unique-looking JRPG that’s packed full of content and will keep you playing for hours. There’s a super interesting battle system that lets you streamline your scrapping, there’s a wonderful soundtrack and some super smart ideas that really make this one shine.
Legends of Kingdom Rush
A turn-based RPG set in the Kingdom Rush universe that sees you building up a team of heroes and scrapping it out across a variety of different locations. There’s a depth to the game, but you can still pick up and play in perfect mobile-sized sessions.
Alto’s Odyssey: The Lost City
The definitive edition of Alto’s Odyssey, a slick and super smart experience that sees you sliding down endless mountains. There are new twists and concepts chucked in here, and it’s almost impossible to play without a smile on your face.
Detonation Racing
This one’s a big, dumb racing game in the vein of Split Second. Thrash along race tracks using power-ups and exploding scenery to keep one step ahead of your opponents. It’s slick, full of things blowing up, and deeply cackle-worthy.
Super Leap Day
Nitrome’s new-level-a-day platformer is just as good now as it ever was. Bounce through levels, collecting and dodging and perfecting. It’s tough in all the right ways, and it’s going to keep challenging you for years to come.
Monster Hunter Stories+
A massive AAA experience that sees you adventuring through the worlds of Monster Hunter, collecting famous creatures and using them to fight through RPG battles. It’s far less esoteric than the main MH series, but you can still lose hours and hours of your life to it.
Baldo
A lovely-looking dungeon exploring, puzzle solving, monster fighting experience that takes its cues from the likes of Zelda. There’s an expansive adventure to work your way through, and more than a few twists and turns along the way.
