It wasn’t long ago that we first caught wind of Gems of War, the latest project from the team that brought you the original Puzzle Quest… and now it’s here! The free-to-play mobile alternative to Ubisoft’s cult-hit strategy Anno series makes its debut this week, but is it a proper strategy game, or just a pretty free-to-play city-builder? We’ll let you know as soon as we’ve decided.
MOBAs are the biggest games going if you look at the numbers, but on mobile they’ve yet to really gain traction. This week’s big release (showcased by Apple during the iPhone 6 reveal, no less) is hoping to change that, and is created by a studio of veteran developers who know the genre better than most.

We fell in love with The Last Door when it was a browser-only title, and again when it hit Steam. Now the game has finally gone mobile, and yes, we’re going to tell you yet again that you really need to play this. If Edgar Allen Poe made a point-and-click adventure, this would be it.

Killing zombies is fun. Pimping your ride is fun. OF COURSE A GAME THAT DOES BOTH IS AMAZING. A lot of people loved the first Earn to Die, and as you’d expect, that means it’s earned another chance to occupy your spare time.

Former Halfbrick developers break away from the studio to make a game that… looks decidedly Halfbrick. If you’re a fan of mobile games, you’d have to agree this is a very good thing. Drive around like a maniac trying to pass over checkpoint circles with only 5 seconds to spare.

We’ve seen more than a few Ninjump games since the original. The latest looks a little like Ninjump Rooftops, but with a focus on multiplayer racing. If you like a good endless run, I’d say this is worth a shot at your busy schedule this week.

There are plenty of soccer (football… whatever) management games on the App Store, but while most developers have gone in a more restrictive free-to-play direction, SEGA is championing the world of premium sports management games with a pay-once-and -your-finished mobile version of their popular PC franchise. (wait… it says “offers in-app purchases”? DAMMIT!)

Twin-stick shooters are nothing new, but twin-stick shooters with a limited field of vision? That’s a pretty neat concept. The creators of House of the Lost are behind this one, and at the low low price of free, it’s intriguing enough to earn a spot on my download list today.

Sometimes you just want a rough and tumble physics driving game. We’ve been seeing more and more of these crop up again recently on the App Store, and if the original Offroad Legends is anything to go by, the sequel should have no problem scratching that itch.

Described by Kongregate as “a free squad-based RPG,” we’re not 100% sure what to expect with Global Assault. Sometimes games with such descriptions are amazing, and other times you’re embarrassed that you even downloaded them. At the very least, this one is pretty. And having Kongregate as a publisher doesn’t hurt, either.

A virtual pet sequel to a virtual pet success, I’d play this cuteness if I didn’t have two dogs demanding my attention whenever I’m not holding a touchscreen device. If you live in an apartment and can’t share in my personal heaven, this has the potential to be the next best thing.
