In a twist that should surprise absolutely no one, one of the biggest iOS games of last year is making its way to Android in the (probably very) near future.Tweets from the official @XCOM account yesterday announced not only that XCOM: Enemy Unknown was coming to Google Play, but that it would be released on April 24th. That tweet was later deleted, with a new one indicating that it was "an error" - though they don't make it clear if the error was the release date or announcing the release date. We're assuming the former, but… we also won't be surprised if we wake up tomorrow morning to find XCOM at the top of the paid games list on Google Play.
We've heard rumblings about this one for quite some time now, but today 2K and Firaxis Games have officially confirmed that the popular and critically acclaimed turn-based tactical game XCOM: Enemy Unknown is coming to iOS this Thursday, June 20. This anticipated release will mark a substantial shift towards bringing full and in-tact console or PC gaming experiences to the mobile screen.
The forthcoming iOS release of XCOM: Enemy Unknown won't feature in-app purchases, designer Jake Solomon informed IGN. Although I'm sure a lot of gamers are happy about this, what I really want to know is how the enemy aliens feel. Happy as well, I'd assume.
With nearly every notable game developer visiting San Francisco right now for the Game Developers Conference, you might think that GDC would be where all of this week's great gaming announcements would be made. But as it turns out, East Coast events for gamers can prove to be just as exciting a place to break news.
