Looking back on a more personal note, I think my own love affair with gamebooks probably started in the same place yours did; reading the Choose Your Own Adventure series as a child.

This so-called send-up of the supernatural romance genre uses the choose-your-own-adventure model to confuse its audience and offer up an abundance of cliches, cheesy storylines and schlocky endings.

It's amazing the kinds of doors that the mobile and tablet markets have opened for gaming, perfect example being the influx of Choose Your Own Adventure-esque games we've seen in recent years. While the concept would have worked okay on a console or PC, it's on a touch screen interface that they truly shine. Case in point, Tin Man Games' Gamebook Adventures series. Having found success with the previous nine entries, the studio is looking to ascend to the double digits with Strange Loves: Vampire Boyfriends.

I've never read 2000 A.D. The only Judge Dredd product I've ever even really experienced is that god-awful Stallone movie from the early 90's. Despite this, I already feel like I get the franchise. As a character, Judge Dredd feels as universally understood to me as Dracula or Batman - you don't need to have read their canon to know what they're all about. With this in mind, I feel pretty confident in saying that Countdown Sector 106 is exactly the sort of game that Judge Dredd fans will love.

For some time now, the makers of mass market entertainment have been rediscovering fairytales, banking on these stories' perennial appeal to make imaginative new TV shows, movies, games and novels. This month, casual game developer MoaCube brings us Cinders, a stylish role-playing-game/interactive novel based on the original Cinderella story. While thus far, interactive novels have been more popular in Japan than the U.S., once American audiences get a load of titles like Cinders, that audience is bound to grow.
