    What a difference a day can make. Last night - roughly 24 hours before the official launch of TinyCo's Family Guy: The Quest for Stuff, the game accidentally snuck onto the New Zealand App Store for a short period of time. Gamers who noticed had just assumed the game had soft launched and, as any fans of Family Guy might have, decided to download it. And like a lot of folks who download games nowadays, they made videos to show off what they were playing.Bad move, gamers.In what one could only describe as an epic PR fail/complete misunderstanding of their audience, Fox went a little nutty and decided to try and shut down players who were showing the game a smidge too early. Touch Arcade has the full story, using their forum member HansKaosu's experience to illustrate the point. In short, HansKaosu received a polite YouTube message from Fox asking him to remove the content, followed by a copyright claim against his videos, and… then Fox had his Twitch channel shut down. Like, completely. It's been nuked.

    Isn't it surprising that Family Guy has made it past the 200-episode mark without an official mobile game? TinyCo has been working with the voice cast from the long-running animated show and the brand experts at Fox Digital Entertainment to rectify this oversight, and the fruits of their labor will be available to all next week when Family Guy: The Quest for Stuff launches for iOS and Android on April 10.Using the latest, particularly destructive donnybrook between Peter Griffin and Ernie The Giant Chicken as a backdrop, the game asks you to direct the Griffin family and their friends in an effort to rebuild Quahog. If that sounds like it'll have builder elements, you're probably on the right track.

    Fox Digital Entertainment has announced today that Family Guy will be getting its very first officially licensed mobile game in 2014! As a huge fan of the popular cartoon show, this news couldn't be more exciting, as we've already seen how well some of Fox's other successful primetime cartoons have fared in the mobile games space, such as EA's The Simpsons: Tapped Out. Fox has selected TinyCo to handle the developing duties on this one, the same studio that brought us games like Tiny Monsters and Spellstorm in the past, and who have now doubled their team size to take on this ambitious new task.While specific details about the game are still being kept under wraps for now, TinyCo says that Family Guy will be a simulation game of sorts, in which players will get a chance to recreate the town of Quahog where the Griffins and all of their friends reside on the show. However, both companies felt that similar games on the mobile platform today have been severely lacking in terms of a deep story and character interactions, and so with their new Family Guy game, a big emphasis will be placed on the many characters from the expansive Family Guy universe that fans of the series all know and love."Through the different gameplay mechanics and "strange occurrences" in the story, Family Guy will remain true to the world, the characters, and of course, the humor that has become such a staple in the long-running cartoon series. In fact, the game itself was written by several writers at Fuzzy Door, the same production company that makes Family Guy, and even several actors from the show are currently recording voiceover work for different characters in the game. TinyCo and Fox both feel that the upcoming game will hit the visual style of Family Guy dead-on, with the ultimate goal of having it play just like an episode of the TV show.The free-to-play Family Guy game is currently slated for an early 2014 release, and will be seeing a simultaneous launch on both iOS and Android platforms. We'll be sure to keep you updated in the meantime as soon as more details begin to emerge with regards to the gameplay, the story, and the familiar faces you might see around town (I've got my fingers crossed that Peter's nemesis, the giant chicken, will make an appearance).     Another day, another gaming studio that's trimming the fat to move ahead with its latest business strategies. This time around, mobile developer TinyCo has announced that they will be laying off a handful of their employees to tighten up the reins as they forge ahead for their company's future. TinyCo found early success in the mobile games space around 2010 and 2011, with their hit simulation titles Tiny Chef and Tiny Monsters.Tech Crunch is reporting that TinyCo will be laying off 27 employees in total across their offices in San Francisco and Argentina. In a statement on the layoffs, TinyCo CEO Suleman Ali has said: "We've moved 10 steps forward on executing a specific strategy around how we build games and what games we build. To execute this strategy, we decided to consolidate game development out of our SF office and reduce our staff." Specific details about this new strategy and why it is resulting in the loss of so many employees have yet to be revealed, although Ali promises that additional news about a new game launch will be coming up in the near future."Despite receiving $18 million in funding from Andreessen Horowitz back in 2011 for the funding of mobile game development, will early studios like TinyCo still be able to exist in today's fast-paced mobile game world alongside the likes of current gaming juggernauts such as Supercell, King, and Kabam? Tech Crunch notes that other successful mobile game developers in 2011 such as Pocket Gems and Storm8 have not been able to continue that same level of success today that they once held in the earlier days of mobile gaming.There is no word yet on whether or not TinyCo has plans to help relocate the 27 employees to other parts of the industry.
