But give me an arcadey sports videogame and I can be just as enthralled as the next guy. I hate basketball with the fury of a thousand suns, but I love me some NBA Jam. So when presented with a football game that's just about bombing touchdown passes, I was more than willing to dive right in.
iOOTP Baseball 2012 Edition Review
I don't know how to code apps, but my guess is that it's not too easy to pack a full-featured baseball simulation into 130 MB. Somehow, iOOTP 2012 Edition manages to pull it off, compiling all the stats and options necessary to play the (American) national pastime the way you want to play it on your iOS device. Armchair general managers of the world, this one's for you.

Most of us will never know what it feels like to blast the game-winning home run, soak in the adulation of the fans, and make the media wonder if we just did it without "help." But we can get a pretty decent simulation of those first two experiences with Baseball Heroes, a free Facebook game from Korean studio Syntasia. So put on your cleats, mind the pine tar and swing for the fences.

I'm not a soccer fan myself, so my vague hope was that Soccer Superstars 2012 would keep it simple. Some running, some kicking of the ball, and maybe the option to spend a bit of money to make the goalie a little less useless. But no such luck. I knew I was in deep when the tutorial went on, and on, and on... and on. Not unnecessarily, mind you, and it wasn't digging down into the nitty-gritty details by any measure. There's just that much material to cover.

Golf is a divisive subject. There are those who adore it, and those who fail to understand the appeal. Honestly, I'm being as careful as I can about how I word all of this, lest I start a golf war in the comments section. I don't think it will upset anyone if I say that WGT has teamed up with the USGA to deliver a virtual version of the Olympic Club's Lake Course. Right?
