iOOTP Baseball 2013 Review
It's spring again, the time a young man's fancy turns to love. At least it's that way for some. For other men and women, thoughts are invariably turning to the new MLB season and how best to simulate it on iOS devices. The reigning and defending champion of mobile baseball sims is back in its latest iteration, iOOTP 2013, showing why it's unlikely to be giving up the title any time soon.
War of Mercenaries Review
War of Mercenaries is one of those games that may look a little too familiar when you first boot it up--specifically, it bears more than a passing resemblance to Kixeye's beloved Backyard Monsters and, more recently, Supercell's Clash of Clans. To its credit, it handles the popular concept well. Gone are the monsters and their suburban environs; in their place we have the trappings of medieval high fantasy and a host of memorable units. That might be enough to win you over if your preferences lean more toward high fantasy than Monsters, Inc., but be prepared to bring along some friends—the social requirements get demanding fast.

If anyone is ever in the mood for running a city under the auspices of organized crime they have plenty of options to get their fix in a family-friendly way via the App Store. Freemium mafia games are pretty much their own subgenre at this point. While Crime Connection isn't without its own set of problems, it manages to stand up quite well against its peers.

Epic Pirates Story Review
No sense beating around the bush about it: Epic Pirates Story, the first game from indie studio Epic Devs LLC, borrows heavily from the popular Kairosoft model, with colorful pixel art graphics, cute, chatty characters and simplified combat and city management mechanics. In fact, the game's description on Google Play specifically mentions that it will remind you of Kairosoft's work and if you're familiar with that particular oeuvre, it will.
Edge of Space Preview
If there's one thing I learned from all those years of elementary school science class, it's that the universe is a pretty big place. Heck, I've never even left the United States before, so who am I to say what kinds of alien creatures are lurking around at the edge of our solar system? Edge of Space is an ambitious open-world sandbox game from HandyMan Studios that combines elements of exploration, crafting, building, and terraforming as players fight to survive in a strange and dangerous part of the universe.
Here Be Monsters Review
As my kids would no doubt agree, there are two kinds of monsters: the scary kind that cause nightmares, and the friendlier kind that you see in kids' movies and TV shows. Here Be Monsters deals more with the latter than the former, combining a lot of things you've done in previous Facebook games along the way. Surprisingly, it actually turns out to be pretty fun.
