Directly or indirectly inspired by the 1985 comedy Brewster's Millions, App Genius' My Mad Millions requires you to spend every last penny of $300,000,000 as quickly as possible to qualify for an even larger inheritance. It's actually not an easy task, and if you're like me, you'll come away from the game wondering just how so many celebrities manage to go bankrupt despite earning figures that make my graduate student loans look like chump change. Still, it's an entertaining concept, and one that even yields a very slim chance of making some real-world money on the side.
When I was a kid, and I admit still today, there were two nerd things that I loved: comics and collectable card games. CLASH: Rise of Heroes gives me both without a trip to the comic store.
A common criticism "core" gamers level at Facebook games is that they are fundamentally unchallenging. Beyond the threat of your crops withering, there's no way to fail. Instead you can only be set back somewhat. Whoever designed Namco Bandai's Treasure Abyss seems to have taken these complaints to heart, because this is one of the very few Facebook games in which you can die and have to start over. You can also easily end up in situations where you can't really make any progress until you convince a friend to join you in the game.
I am a nerd. I admit it, so when you add dragon to a title, it immediately shoots up on my cool list, but Dragons of Atlantis doesn't have much dragons. In fact, after several hours of playing, I still did not know the full extent of the dragon's purpose.
Fans of action RPG's are going to want to keep an eye out for Ossian Studios upcoming The Shadow Sun. Previously responsible for games released for the popular Neverwinter Nights series, Ossian Studios are promising a western-style RPG rendered in full 3D courtesy of the Unity engine.
The treasure hunting genre is hopelessly oversaturated by now, but that doesn't keep Digger from being a very fun game. For the most part it's a straightforward clone of Treasure Isle, even copying Zynga interface mainstays like the sets of five collectible items. Digger also adds in some gameplay mechanics from Pirates Ahoy, letting you forge a team of friends who play the game so you can get energy and other bonuses. Digger is far less reliant on having tons of friends to play with you than Pirates Ahoy, which makes it quite a bit more engaging.
Fantasy MMORPGs are becoming increasingly-common on the iPhone, which means that developers are faced with the daunting task of producing something that is simultaneously well-made and memorable. French developer Moving Player's new MMO Yslandia, thankfully, manages to achieve both of these feats, though it does have a couple of technical hiccups that need to be addressed.
KarjaSoft has posted the first set of screenshots for the Spandex Force follow-up Spandex Force: Superhero U. Like the first game, Superhero U combines match-3 and RPG gameplay with a superhero theme that KarjaSoft is calling "a mix between X-Men and Harry Potter, sprinkled with absurd humor á la Spandex Force." Check out the screenshots behind the cut.
