From the moment Eternal Legacy begins, it's pretty obvious that Gameloft is doing its damnedest to put its own spin on Square Enix's Final Fantasy games. Not when the gameplay starts, but when the title screen loads: there are two characters that look like they were pulled straight from Final Fantasy X, right down to the choppy hair, cyberpunk sword, and summoning staff that the duo are sporting. This may sound like a bad thing, but it's actually meant as a big compliment, because the game mostly manages to create a great JRPG on the iPhone.
With all the buzz about its top notch visuals and its sword and shield action, the last thing I expected to be comparing Infinity Blade to was a Bill Murray movie - but that's exactly what it is. Beneath its action RPG exterior, heavy metal art style, and massive equipment selection, Chair Entertainment's first iOS effort is really just Groundhog's Day in disguise.
Infinity Blade is an action RPG from Chair Entertainment for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. Combining elements from the RPG and fighting genre, Infinity Blade puts you in the shoes of a warrior set out to avenge his father's death. With Gamezebo's quick start guide, you'll be sword fighting your way to victory in no time.
Over the past couple of years, the iPhone has become a great system to play "classic"-style RPGs on. The list of quality RPGs for the phone has been growing pretty quickly, and Electronic Arts has just added another title to it with Heroes Lore III. This an epic game that gets most of the necessary elements right, but still has some room for improvement.
Still wiping the drool from your mouth after checking out the trailer from Epic Games' upcoming action RPG Infinity Blade? Now they've unleashed some new screens that will no doubt blow gamers away, as well as a release date and price point.
RPGs are occasionally associated with multiple pages of statistics to decipher, upgrades to consider and experience points to grind - yet sometimes stripping all of this away in favour of a more simplistic approach can make for the best adventuring experiences. Labyrinthica: The Quest of Lima captures RPG gaming in its purest form, offering minimal stats yet a huge sense of progression.
Wheelers and Dealers is the rare Facebook game that offers a lot more depth and engagement than you might expect. At first blush this is a game that looks very much like another text RPG trying to liven up the same old menu-clicking gameplay with lots of artwork. While there is a lot of menu-clicking in Wheelers and Dealers' gameplay, it's vastly more interesting than your average Facebook text RPG.
When people want to play epic, sprawling, Elder Scrolls-style RPG's, the iPhone isn't necessarily the first gaming device that comes to mind. Yet with games like Ravensword and Xenome establishing a solid presence on the portable, and titles like The Shadow Sun in the works, it seems as though the iPhone is quickly becoming the destination of choice for the genre. Aralon: Sword and Shadow is the next title that's set to join their ranks.
