If there's one thing that Facebook and console gamers have in common, it's their combined fascination with organized crime. So in some ways a new entry in the Saints Row series—a Grand Theft Auto-style action series on consoles—created exclusively for Facebook makes sense. And it even offers up something different not found in games like Mafia Wars or Gangster City. But while Saints Row: Total Control has some new ideas, none of them are executed all that well.
Sovereign: Kingdoms is an iPhone game developed by JIRBO set in a fantasy world where you can go on adventures and manage your very own village. Gamezebo's Sovereign: Kingdoms strategy guide and walkthrough will provide you with a quick start guide, tips and tricks, hints and cheats so that you can become the most powerful adventurer in the land.
Sovereign: Kingdoms isn't a particularly original game. In it, you get to build and manage a budding rural village, travel to strange places and fight vicious monsters, and customize your very own adventurer. It's sort of like a role playing game crossed with a city building sim. And while neither of those aspects is all that engaging on their own, they come together to form a decent and rather addictive experience.
With the upcoming Deep Realms, Playdom is looking to bring a traditional role playing game to Facebook, but with a social twist. It will feature elements like tile-based exploration and turn-based combat that are staples of the genre, but will also include both competitive and co-operative elements that let players interact with their friends and the story in different ways.
Are you sick and tired of your boring 9-5 job at the office cubicle? Do you wish that you could use some high-powered firearms to work through those pesky anger issues? Do you look sexy in space armor? Then may I suggest that you join up with your local branch of interstellar mercenaries? The pay is great, the hours are reasonable, and - if Hunters: Episode One is any evidence - mowing down your enemies can be incredibly therapeutic.
There isn't a more iconic RPG franchise than Gauntlet, but the game has yet to appear on iOS devices. Thankfully, German developer Smuttlewerk Interactive is working filling this gap with a new title for the iPad: Companions.
Buddy Rush isn't really a social game, it's a casual action role playing game that just so happens to be on Facebook. It features smooth, colorful 3D visuals and a large assortment of quests to complete and items to collect. The structure does get a bit repetitive after a while, but the solid core gameplay and delightful sense of charm help to cover up that fact. And you can play it on your phone.
Grey Area, a smart-phone games developer based in Finland has raised $2.5 million, according to TechCrunch. Grey Area is the developer of the mobile alternative reality game called Shadow Cities, which turns real city streets into a virtual battle zone for players, with missions, casting spells, and mages. Think FourSquare if FourSquare was actually a game, and not some pointless app that you can only use to check-in real-world locations and nothing more. Nerdy, yes. Cool, indeed.
