Say this for Armed Heroes (formerly known as Armed Heroes Online): It's not misleading you at all with its title. This freemium fantasy action MMORPG does contain heroes, and they are in fact armed. Chinese developer EGLS didn't provide it with a whole lot of originality, but it's a competent way to do some questing with or without other people helping you on your iOS device of choice.
Monster Quest is an action simulation game from GREE, where you are tasked with building a thriving habitat for monsters to grow and prosper. Making a place fit for dragons can be a bit of a daunting task but with Gamezebo's quick start guide you'll be off and running in no time.
In every alternate reality and hidden world filled with impossible creatures, there's always a single, universal rule: Catch 'em and make 'em fight each other. Monster Quest's fantastical setting is no different. Okay, that's not entirely true. There's less of an emphasis on fighting and combat strategies and more of a focus on rounding out the beastiary. The fun here is in the fusion…but there might not be enough of it to go around.
Fighting Fantasy is the best-known franchise in the history of gamebooks, but its transition to interactive e-books has been poor. However Tin Man Games, purveyor of the fine Gamebook Adventures series, have now acquired the license. Their first offering in the series is an adaption of the latest Fighting Fantasy book, Blood of the Zombies, written by series co-founder Ian Livingstone.
It's now law that, whenever you discuss a hack 'n' slash game, you must mention Diablo. OK, so this isn't 100 percent true, but I challenge you to find a review, news post or preview of a hack 'n' slasher on a video game website that doesn't mention Blizzard's behemoth franchise. It is the series that every other dungeon crawler is compared to, and rightly so.
Considering they're the ones with the immortality and all the fancy powers, it's pretty sad how often the gods need the help of mortals to get things done. They're at it again in Heroes of the Pantheon by StudioEX, asking you to battle your way through this freemium Facebook action game to prove yourself as a hero and help defeat the Titans. Fine, Zeus… let me go get my sword.
Americana Dawn sounds like a strange tale indeed. Players will become Rarascau, one of the last of a quasi-immortal race of "Keepers" that have been watching human civilization unfold, and taking part in pivotal events since the dawn of time. Yet their existence isn't secret. They are known to the world, and in spite of their great power they are neither worshiped nor feared, but simply accepted.
If the pet battling genre has its own battle cry, it's got to be the beloved "Gotta catch 'em all" of Nintendo's Pokemon. And to be sure, once you find a good entry in the genre, there's a lot of fun in scooping up all of the collectible pets, learning their abilities, and battling them with your friends. But it's the pets we want to collect; not the games.
