I'm the type of guy that brings a gun to a knife fight, so when I first switched on Gamevil's new action/RPG Zenonia 5, I was instantly drawn to the character of Evan - the game's steam-punk gunslinger. I envisioned myself a pistol-packing Indiana Jones in a world of scimitar-swinging swordsmen, blasting baddies back to the Stone Age with a single shot. Instead I was quickly mauled to death by a gang of fuzzy little critters.
There's no better feeling than getting completely lost in a good RPG. It's the ultimate form of escapism; a place where you can forget all of life's troubles and assume the role of a legendary hero. And having spent much of our youth captivated by Squaresoft's many contributions to the genre, it's hard for us not to be psyched about the forthcoming re-release of Final Fantasy IV on iOS and Android.
Tiny Castle lets you rule your own kingdom with style! This newest addition from Tiny Co. starts you out with a tiny kingdom and as you upgrade your castle and complete quests, you can build creature-specific homes and prolific farms. Feed and raise your creatures to adulthood where they can be cross-bred and eventually even more magical creatures will live in your kingdom, giving it great value. Gamezebo's quick start strategy guide will provide you with detailed images, tips, information, and hints on how to play your best game.
What's a fantasy kingdom without plenty of fantasy creatures, right? TinyCo's new kingdom-builder does a good job of emphasizing creature care over simple building tasks, and even infuses a surprising amount of exposition into the proceedings. Once what serves as a tutorial section is over, a few of Tiny Castle's flaws become more noticeable, but overall it's still an enjoyable freemium title with plenty of charm.
Northmark: Hour of the Wolf is one of a small group of games that work a tactical card game into a wider overarching framework of plot, blending in a few mini-games into the mix for good measure. Following in the grand tradition of the original Magic: the Gathering computer game from Microprose, these games can be extremely good. But that's a pretty big set of boots for Northmark to fill.
Instant Games is pretty confident you've never played anything quite like its new RPPG. You aren't seeing double, either. That extra 'P' is for poker, and Poker Knight really is a Role Playing Poker Game. It's time to put down the sword and pick up some cards, because that's what you'll need to survive this particular fantasy world on your iOS device.
The smoky taverns of the sword coast are filled with veteran adventurers, gnarled wizards and spent warriors who've wasted their fortunes on travel and drink and earn their coin by recounting tales of their quests. The paladin, Justus was one such. But now danger springs anew in the musty lairs and dank caverns beneath the savage frontier, and I have called on Justus to press his rusty blade back into service once more.
I won't even pretend to understand how this works, but King Cashing 2 is set to mash up the very disparate genres of role-playing and slots in a game that actually looks pretty cool. It's not the first time that this has happened--the "2" in the title is evidence of that--but while the original game was decent, the developers say they're using what they learned from that one to make the follow-up even better.
