    Some reviews are almost impossible to do without making direct references to other games. Monster Legends is one of those, as the free-to-play Facebook game owes more than a little debt of gratitude to a certain Nintendo-backed IP that starts with a 'P.' The difference is you'll be breeding your own monsters instead of catching them, and while it's not the kind of game that's going to have mass appeal, it's enjoyable enough for what it is.

    The creatures of Terra Monsters are quite numerous. The stable of close to 200 monsters to capture and train is probably the game's biggest bullet point, actually. Even bigger than the "massive open world" and "over 100 quests." Unfortunately, it's also the only bullet point that measures up.

It's a self-proclaimed massive open world with a hundred quests to complete, and almost twice as many monsters to capture, which is just the sort of thing that new players might require a bit of help with.     I had a revelation the other day that if the current me went back in time and showed the eight-year old me an iPad, it would blow my mind. Unless my current self was showing my past self Game of Watchcraft: Spawn of Squishy, that is, in which case I'd probably just wonder how Clicker managed to get an LCD game so flat. In the present, it's a game that ends up both living and dying by its remarkable devotion to handheld game technology that ruled the 1980s.

    When I was in the fifth grade, I somehow got the idea in my head that I wanted to join the basketball team at school. So I signed up for a weeklong basketball camp over the summer, just to sharpen up my skills, and maybe score a dunk or two for the ladies. But then a funny thing happened: I realized I couldn't quite get the ball to go into the basket, like ever, and lost every training drill for my team singlehandedly. Luckily, the new basketball RPG Dunk Dreams from Brothersport Games offers the entirely opposite experience, and can make anyone the king of the courts in a manner of minutes through deep role-playing gameplay, and even deeper systems of player customization.

    The Ultima series is kind of like that girl you had a crush on back in high school: pretty awesome back in the day, but not the same after letting herself go in more recent years. Mythic and EA are trying to turn back the clock with Ultima Forever: Quest for the Avatar, a free-to-play RPG that freshens things up for mobile gamers but ultimately (no pun intended) doesn't quite live up to the fan favorite game that inspired it, Ultima IV.
