    When scouring the globe for the latest in gaming gossip, it's not often that a story comes out of my local paper - but hey, it had to happen sometime.On Tuesday, January 28th, a 12 year old boy from St. Catharines, Ontario decided to take his grandmother's Nissan Altima for a joyride. Unlike most kids who do such silly things and crash before the end of the block, this kid got pretty far. All the way to the Canada/US border, in fact.The Queenston-Lewiston Bridge acts as one of several gateways in Niagara between Canada and the United States, and it's a good 20 minutes from St. Catharines (possibly more depending on where in the city he started from). Not only that, but it requires some serious highway driving - including a trek over the monstrously tall Garden City Skyway that still terrifies me on every trip I take.

    I'm not generally opposed to the idea of one-button games. In fact, when done well they can be pretty awesome. On the other hand, they can also be a pretty shallow letdown. Motocross Meltdown falls somewhere in between those two extremes. It's pretty, and it's full of customization options that encourage replay, but it's also very one-note. So much so that it's rather difficult to remain interested for very long.The basic idea of Motocross Meltdown is to keep winning races and other motocross-style events in order to earn enough money to upgrade your bike (or buy a better one). Then win tougher races and events to win more money to upgrade or purchase better bikes in order to win even tougher races, etc. Each event is one-on-one against either an AI rider or another player depending on the mode chosen, with the spoils going to the faster or higher-scoring participant."There are a fair number of events that include stunts, races, a combination of the two, and more. However, they all play in pretty much the same fashion: watch as circles move across the bottom of the screen and tap a button at the right times throughout each event in order to optimize your performance. For most events, this means tapping at key moments for jumps and turns. For stunts, it means tapping at the proper time and holding down in order to extend the trick - just be careful not to hold it for too long. And that's really all there is to it.Motocross Meltdown is definitely a pretty game to watch in motion. The riders animate well, pyrotechnics light up the edges of the tracks, and by the end of a race everyone is appropriately dirty. The simplistic timing-based gameplay could even be viewed as a means to enjoy the visuals more thoroughly if you'd like to think of it that way. Pulling off tricks and landing them perfectly can also be quite satisfying, even despite their relative simplicity. The various customization options, bikes, and upgrades are also welcome and do a decent job of giving players a reason to stick around.

    Back when mobile gaming was just really starting to take off, a little stunt-based racing game called Jet Car Stunts hit the scene in 2010, and quickly captivated gamers with its addictive level of challenge and wildly abstract track designs. Well now it's a few years later, and developer True Axis has returned to give us the enormous and long-awaited sequel that we were hoping for. And while the end result isn't perfect, it's still filled to the brim with rewarding ways to play, exciting new vehicles, and a crazy cool level editor that will quite literally have you gliding on air.While Jet Car Stunts 2 might seem like your typical racing game at first glance, a "racing-platformer" might be a much better description for what the experience actually entails, as the game is much more GripShift than Wipeout HD. There are a number of different level types that cycle in and out to always keep the gameplay feeling fresh: from time attack courses and full-on races, to an open playing field that tasks you with performing as many different stunts as you can within a given time limit. But my favorite type of levels have always been the quintessential Jet Car Stunts platform levels, in which you quite literally have to hop from platform to platform and deal with all the other obstacles and pitfalls that get in the way as you drive."As the word "Jet" in the game's title might imply, your nitrous jet boosters play a big role once again in letting you pull off a lot of the stunt-based maneuvers that will be required of you. Much like its predecessor, Jet Car Stunts 2 features those same rewarding gameplay mechanics that make you feel unbelievably accomplished for earning a gold medal after 50+ retries. Medal requirements are usually determined by level type, and can range from finishing the course in a certain amount of time, to scoring a designated number of points, to completing a platforming level without restarting at a checkpoint.

But that hasn't stopped the plucky Guildfordians from releasing Joe Danger Infinity, a new installment of the Joe Danger toy-based stunt bike series. Puddles of milk and soup can't stop Joe Danger, and neither can a deluge of icy sea water.Joe Danger Infinity includes dozens of racing/stunt tracks that feature a toy-like appearance, like obstacle courses set up in a child's bedroom. Outside of the designated race levels, going as fast as possible is unimportant. Your main goal is to navigate traps, bounce on platforms, collect items and coins, and have yourself a good time.And rest assured: It's easy to have a good time with Joe Danger Infinity. The game plays much like its predecessors, so you can count on a lot of flipping, springing, wheelies, and crazy cars and drivers. Don't be surprised if your body automatically moves with the on-screen action.It's usually enough to safely reach the finish line at the end of each level, but Joe Dangeralsohas lots of special goals to meet and objects to root out. Sometimes it's enough to drive into said objects (coins, for example), but other times you need to physically tap whatever's flying at you (stars).
