In Puzzle of the Dead, you play as a young lonely boy named Pip who is a bit of an outcast in the world. Pip is in love with a girl named Plum, but she does not love him back because he doesn't fit in. Desperate to win her love, Pip is confronted by an old witch with a solution to his problem, but she needs dead souls before she will give it to him.
We've all heard of aliens abducting cows (and people...), but now they're after the world's puppies! In Pi Eye Games' Puppy Sanctuary, you'll have to rescue trapped puppies from the aliens' traps and keep them warm, safe and happy.
Vesuvia is a new match-3 survival adventure launching soon from I-play. Shipwrecked on a mysterious island, you quickly discover that you aren't alone. You can follow the story in Quest Mode, or play quick 60-second rounds in Frenzy Mode where the goal is simply to rack up high scores, match special symbols and uncover bonuses.
The best puzzle games are the ones that take a simple concept and are able to craft an entire experience out of them. The sublime ones (Tetris, Bejeweled, Lumines, Peggle) stand the test of time. While Halcyon for the iPad may not go toe-to-toe with the greats, it does take a fun, simple concept and creates a fun, challenging game out of it.
This may be hard to believe, but Poseidon's Realm actually does something new and interesting with the well-trod match-3 puzzle formula. With a few twists the game manages to feel both fresh and familiar at the same time, which makes for an incredibly addictive experience.
This is starting to get confusing. Bubble Speed is not only one of many Facebook puzzlers built off of the Bust-a-Move formula, but like all of those games it also has bubble in the title. With a structure lifted from Popcap's Blitz series, the game doesn't offer a whole lot new, but it's still largely enjoyable bubble popping fun. Even if you have seen it numerous times before.
Match 3 has been a stalwart genre in the video game world for years now. Seems like we've always just been here, clearing lines and items for points, only to have the screen just fill up again and again and again. It's amazing to me that we can even still be interested in the genre, yet it's still just as compelling as ever. Some games, like YumYumBoy, manage to even make it feel a little refreshing!
Magical Mysteries: Path of the Sorceress might sound like another hidden object game... but it's not! It's a unique fantasy-themed match-3 game with stunning 3D graphics that offers a balance between fast-paced battles and brain-teasing puzzles.
