"Powered by Unreal Technology." It's a big selling point for any app these days. But some developers seem to forget that just because you use one of the most advanced graphics engines on the iPhone doesn't mean you can forget to, you know, make an actual game. PD -prope discoverer- (yes, that's the name, and every time I mention it in this review, you'll have to read this) is a decent-looking demo for constructing an environment, but there's nothing else there.
In case you were wondering whether or not people were still making games to cash in on Puzzle Quest's success a few years back, the answer is yes. Although Herofy doesn't play very much like Puzzle Quest, it's still a match-3 puzzle game that goes far out of its way to add a veneer of RPG to the proceedings. While your character doesn't level up of have stats, you do buy power-ups from a shop, defeat enemies, and collect trophies you can store in your in-game cottage. Herofy just puts more of emphasis on the puzzle gaming part of the RPG puzzler equation.
Playrix has released a snazzy new video that shows off its upcoming match-3 puzzle game sequel 4 Elements II. Check it out, along with the first screenshots of the game, behind the cut.
Continuity 2 hurts my brain. It's one thing to have to navigate complicated, spike-riddled terrain. It's another thing entirely to have to alter the flow of entire rooms mid-jump so as to be able to land safely on a coin-laden ledge. Minimalist yet unique, Continuity 2 is the sequel to Continuity, a phenomenally awesome title that won the Best Student Game Award at the independent Games Festival 2010.
Super Crayon doesn't feel much like a Facebook game when you initially play it. The action-puzzle gameplay and bright minimalist graphics feel more like the sort of thing that a mobile developer would come up with for iOS or Android. The goal of the game is not to score attack or do anything else you'd usually do in a Facebook action game, but instead an arcade-style attempt to try and survive for as many levels as you can. You even get three lives each time you start a new session and can earn more lives by getting particularly high scores.
Cordy is a side scrolling puzzle platformer where you play as, you guessed it, Cordy. His job is to get the power back on in his world - a big task for such a small guy! To do this you'll run around different levels, grabbing power cores that you can then use to power up different stations, opening up the exits to the levels.
Awem Studio, the makers of match-3 puzzle games Cradle of Rome and Cradle of Persia, will be exploring another ancient civilization with the series' latest spin-off, Cradle of Egypt. Information and screenshots for the upcoming puzzler recently appeared on the developer's website, and you can check them out behind the cut.
It's convenient that MadCap has the word "mad" in its name, as you'll likely be driven to insanity after the first few levels. In this post Angry Birds era, games in the level-based "catapult" style have some pretty big shoes to fill, but while there are many other games on various platforms that can at least successfully mimic that style of play, MadCap is a downright mess.
