EA shutting down SimCity Social, The Sims Social, and Pet Society
Flick off the lights. The party's over. According to an announcement from EA this morning, SimCity Social, The Sims Social, and Pet Society are all going offline on June 14. Once those three titles go dark, Playfish's social Facebook presence will fade into blackness, too.

Recently at GDC, EA Playfish's Creative Director, Ray Mazza, talked a little about what drives Facebook users to try out the games that their friends are playing. To be more specific, Mazza pointed out that the now-defunct games ticker on Facebook was responsible for 93% of the early referral traffic that reached their popular Facebook game, Sims Social.

Risk: Factions unveils “Operation Like”
If you "Like" the upcoming Facebook game Risk: Factions, you'll be able to unlock free in-game content for when the game finally launches. Developer Playfish has unveiled an initiative called "Operation Like," which will see new content unlocked as more people click the "Like" button.
The Sims Social stealing players from Zynga, other Sims games
The Sims Social has been one of the few games on Facebook to compete with Zynga's dominance on the platform. Currrently, it sits just behind CityVillewith the second largest playerbase on Facebook, with a current player base of more than 65 million monthly active users. And according to a new report from gaming social network Raptr, many of those players came at the expense of Zynga games and other titles in The Sims series.

As The Sims Social sails to the top of the charts on Facebook, six other games from Playfish aren't doing quite as well. In fact, games like My Empire and Hotel City are doing so poorly that the developer will be shutting them down by the end of this month.
