    As popular as freemium games on Facebook and mobile are, it's always amazed us that so few developers have tried to make the jump between the two. Sure a handful of games have done it like It Girl, FarmVille, and Buddy Rush, but these seem to be the exceptions that prove the rule. As it turns out, we weren't the only ones puzzled by this situation. The folks at OpenFeint have been pondering the same thing, and they're looking to do something about it. The company has just announced the hire of Ethan Fassett, a former Playdom executive, to spearhead an initiative to bring Facebook developers to mobile.

    Hidden object games have been the lifeblood of the PC and Mac casual games market for years but have been seemingly absent on Facebook. . . . until now. We just reviewed and gave Mystery Manor, a HOG on Facebook, 4 stars. And just moments ago, Playdom officially released Gardens of Time. I got a sneak peak of Gardens of Time at GDC and liked what I saw. Check out both Mystery Manor and Gardens of Time and tell us: will hidden object games be as successful on Facebook as they have as PC and Mac downloads?

    The best hidden object game of the year maybe on Facebook

    Like oil and water, hidden object games and Facebook are not supposed to mix. Facebook games are meant to be social and hidden object games are traditionally a solitary affair.Apparently, no one gave Playdom this memo. Playdom showed me a demo of their upcoming social hidden object game, Gardens of Time, at the Game Developer Conference this week.I don't have any screen shots to show you yet (it's still under embargo). But, I am allowed to share with you my impressions. I can fairly say, as the owner of a games site that has reviewed about 1000 hidden object games in the past 5 years, I am thoroughly impressed.

    Chris Morrison has written what appears to be the first chapter of a book on the Disney-Playdom acquisition over at Inside Social Games. In his very long blog post and analysis (which I'm actually applauding), he questions whether Disney's $700 million acquisition of Playdom has been a "win" or "fail" so far for Disney.
