Mad Acorn Preview
By Nadia Oxford
Can a squirrel take down a rampaging gorilla? It's possible, if he has the power of music on his side. Mad Acorn is a rhythm/action game for iOS that combines funky beats with a sense of humor and general good times. Fans of Nintendo's Rhythm Heaven games or Sony's PaRappa the Rapper might find a lot to like about this one.KOTOMON Review
By Eli Cymet
When Kotomon hit the App Store, I literally jumped at the chance to review it. And if I didn't, you certainly can't prove otherwise. A game boasting dancing, monsters, and shooting from key members behind Q Entertainment's iconic titles Rez and Lumines? Where do I sign up!? Yet our fearless Editor-in-Chief Jim was a little skeptical: "I've come to realize that 'from the makers of...' always spells disaster on iOS." Oh well, what does he know? I thought, hitting "buy." A lot, as it turns out.Dancing With the Stars: Keep Dancing Preview
By Nadia Oxford
Social games let you farm online, run stores online, play sports online, and even sing online, but is it possible to dance online? As it so happens, yes. Dancing With the Stars: Keep Dancing is a free-to-play browser-based social game that lets you glide across the dance floor with angelic grace, even if you're about as smooth as a three-legged tomcat in real life.Enjoy! Facebook is huge. Karaoke is huge. Put 'em together, and you get Enjoy! Karaoke—potentially the biggest game to hit Facebook in a long time. You'll be able to sing karaoke online, with your buddies (or by yourself), at any time. No minimum drink purchase required.Circadia Review
As games grow more complex and complicated across all platforms and genres, it's rare to see a title which truly goes for minimalism and simplicity. And yet, that's exactly what you'll find in the case of Circadia, an incredibly simple and straightforward game that nonetheless offers a great deal of challenge. There's an elegance to it to be sure, but there's also the potential for boredom. Circadia is the one of those games that will either instantly grab you and refuse to let you go, or you won't see the appeal and will abandon it almost immediately.Beat Sneak Bandit Review
When it comes to fun ways to spend an evening, breaking and entering probably doesn't sit too high on your list. After playing Beat Sneak Bandit, though, you may want reconsider this. The game proves that burglary — combined with a little rhythm and a lot of style — is easily one of the most entertaining activities you could possibly be involved with.Beat Sneak Bandit Preview
Rhythm games were a dime a dozen just a couple years ago. Now that the hype from series like Guitar Hero and Rock Band has died down, developers are looking for unique ideas to revive the genre. That's where Beat Sneak Bandit is trying to sneak in. Simogo, who developed other iOS titles such as Kosmo Spin and Bumpy Road, looks to steal our preconceived notions of rhythm games and kick them to the curb.AVSEQ Review
You know how in a rhythm based game like Rez, Lumines or Patapon, everything you do or interact with adds to the music of the action? Whether it's a drum beat or riff or whatever. it all just builds and builds until you're playing this fantastically organic song just by playing the game? It's quite euphoric when it all comes together and you feel like you're honest to god creating music. Yea, I love that feeling. AVSEQ doesn't have any of that.
