Tribes: Ascend Review
It's considered games journalism taboo to openly admit this in your work, but I think it's an important fact to note: I'm not crazy about most modern first-person shooters. I hate getting picked off by snipers from the other side of the screen in a matter of seconds. I hate the infantile wailing of prepubescent children talking smack over a headset. I hate having to invest $60+ every year keeping up with yearly releases. Tribes: Ascend is none of these things.
Centrifeud Review
Call me old-fashioned, but I miss real multiplayer experiences. The ones where adding a second or third player meant having people in the room instead of waiting for people to join your "room" online. And while it's done wonders to get more people playing, one of my biggest gripes about casual gaming is that less people seem to be playing together. Enter Centrifeud: a great new excuse to yell at your friends and family.
Conclave Review
In our always-connected digital age, not many of us have the time to sit down for a vintage role-playing session like we did in our youth (my youth, anyway). The guys at 10x10 Room have come up with a novel way to meet us halfway with Conclave, a browser-based fantasy RPG that can be played live with other gamers or by turns whenever you have time. It's like pen-and-paper brought into the 21st Century.
Tunnelers Review
Did you ever see that gigantic machine that digs out gigantic, tunnel-shaped holes in the Earth? It's got that gnarly cone on the front of it that looks like it will just eat your soul if you were to get within 100 feet of it. Imagine if that thing had tank treads, moved pretty quick and had guns on it. Do I have your attention yet? I'm guessing I do, but please, temper your excitement. The game I'm about to tell you about doesn't really live up to that fantastic imagery.
RAD Soldiers Preview
Splash Damage, the UK-based studio behind Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory and Brink, is currently at work on a free-to-play turn-based strategy game for iOS. Rumor has it that said game may actually be quite rad, and features soldiers that are of a similarly radical breed.
Dark Legends Review
Spacetime Studios continues its mobile MMO Legends series with their latest release, swapping space and fluffiness for a rather different, more violent angle. Dark Legends puts you in control of a bloody-thirsty vampire, on a quest to find the culprit responsible for your fangs.
Knights of the Sky Review
On the website where players can register to play, Atlus describes Knights of the Sky as a free-to-play MMORTS game. That description may not be 100 percent correct, but it is an interesting experiment: a browser-based strategy game with fantasy MMO and RPG elements and a heavy anime influence. It also doesn't cost anything to try, if any part of the last sentence caught your attention.
Bounty Bots Review
If you're anything like I am, online shooters get overwhelming. There's so much to balance, from the constantly chastising pre-teen teammates to the picking the right class and managing inventory--not to mention that whole shooting thing. So when I opened up Bounty Bots, I had the expectation that I'd be blown away. I was, but by the excellent game rather than by my opponents (ok - by my opponents too, but that's not the point).
