Text-based social games have been around for a few years now, with many of them modeled after the successful Facebook game of Mafia Wars. A newer game for iOS named Please Stay Calm, however, is taking that formula and weaving it into a location-based style of play. Combining several familiar gameplay mechanics, it connects users together and tasks them with surviving the frequently used "zombie apocalypse." Developed by Massive Damage, the game offers many good ideas, even if they sometimes feel a bit unrefined.

The original game itself has received countless updates, but like any success, you just had to know there'd be a sequel in the works one day. In retrospect, it's a bit odd that while so many other successful social genres transitioned successfully to mobile smartphone platforms, the venerable old mafia RPG never quite did. Instead, mobile freemium leapfrogged right to the second wave of major social games, the cute management sims where you raise pets, design towns, or take care of any number of other things. In light of that, it's a bit odd that Red Robot's Life is Crime exists at all, since at heart it's an extremely traditional mafia RPG of the sort that would be right at home on Facebook in 2008.

Battlepath Monsters is a basic role-playing game with some simple location-based features. These don't actually do anything to affect the gameplay, however, and instead are simply things that might make you say "oh, neat," before you forget about them. The rest is as straightforward an RPG as you're likely to find, with plenty of monsters to battle and weapons to outfit your adventurer with. It works well enough, but for those who like RPGs, it will also leave you wishing for a deeper experience.
