    Kabam raises $30 million to make more core social games

    Kabam continues to push forward in its attempt to become the number two biggest social games company, raising $30 million today, in addition to the $9.5 million it has raised previously. The company has been on a bit of a tear lately, growing from 20 to 200 employees in the past years with offices down the road from me (in SF Bay area) and China. It has launched and acquired numerous games such as Dragons of Atlantis and Glory of Rome but bed and butter remains Kingdoms of Camelot.

    Legacy of a Thousands Suns has a name that makes it sound like it numbers among the lesser-known works of Ursula K. Le Guin or Gene Wolfe, and to be sure, its story-based text likely outnumbers several of their better works. Beginning with its lavishly detailed starting screen to its awe-inspiring graphics for boss fights, 5 Planet Games never lets us forget that this is a Facebook RPG with ambition, and it marks a significant improvement over their well-received predecessor, Dawn of the Dragons.

It's a standard that any such game should be held to, and any such game should be considered a failure if it's possible. Fortunately, Kabam's Glory of Rome doesn't disappoint in this regard, although some might wonder if it leans too far in the other direction. Indeed, the spans of time needed to succeed in the game have you ready for the Middle Ages after only a few levels.

    Kabam has upped the ante in its battle to take on the Zynga's of the world by acquiring WonderHill. Kabam is on a bit of a tear lately based on the success of it's strategy game Kingdoms of Camelot. The company has expanded from 30 to 200 employees in the past year and has the ambitious goals of releasing a new game a month and becoming the Blizzard of Social Games according to an article in TechCrunch.
