Doodle Jump: HOP The Movie Review
Thanks to a pair of announcements earlier this year, it seemed as though 2011 might just be the year of the movie tie-in. And while there haven't been any other announcements that have cemented that prediction quite yet, the first movie tie-in game - Doodle Jump HOP - has arrived on the App Store, and much to our delight it offers some unique changes that fans of the Doodle Jump series have been asking for.
Float Review
When I was a little boy, I used to play a game with a balloon. I'd hit it in the air and try to bounce it off my hands as many times as I could without it touching the ground. Clearly I wasn't alone in this idea, as the team at Crawl Space Games has seemingly rummaged through my memories to create an iOS experience that speaks directly to my inner child.
Albert Review
What sort of things do you do every day? Wake up? Make breakfast? Walk the dog? So does Albert, and the developers at FingerLab want you to join him. Albert is a mini-game collection that takes you through a day in the life of its titular character, from sunrise to sunset.
Clumsy Bob Review
We've seen a lot of distance-running games on the iPhone. They're simple yet solid timewasters that are appropriate to their price on the App Store. I've been hooked on Rat on a Scooter for a while now, and still fire it up every now and again. Clumsy Bob doesn't try to re-invent the wheel, but is a fun diversion if you're into high-scoring challenges.
MilMo Review
There's been much speculation about when, or if, massively multiplayer games (MMOs) would start taking over Facebook. Most popular Facebook games use a lot of MMO-like mechanics like quests, experience levels, and avatar customization, after all. To date, what seems to hold the genre back is that it really needs 3D graphics to work well, but 3D visuals on Facebook inevitably seem to suffer intolerable load time problems. This is unfortunately the case for MilMo, but it's one of the few MMOs that's worth sitting through the load screens.
Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures Review
Pretty much everyone who has ever watched a Star Wars film has imagined what it would be like to don the brown robes of the Jedi and wield a humming lightsaber. But being a Jedi means mastering a wide range of skills, something that the browser-based MMO Clone Wars Adventures exemplifies. The game has you taking on an incredibly wide range of tasks, from piloting a starship to reprogramming droids. But while Clone Wars Adventures maintains the look and feel of the series while featuring a large variety of mini-games, much of the content is locked away lest you splurge on a subscription.
Toy Story 3: Operation Camouflage Review
Ten-hut, soldier! The plastic army men from Toy Story 3 have found their way onto the iPhone, and they need your help! Woody and the other toys are missing, and they need someone who can do some reconnaissance work. You know what that means, don't you? That's right - looking at surveillance photos and identifying items. Yep - it's a Toy Story hidden object game.
Air Forte Review
Blendo Games' latest venture sends young players to the skies and manages to teach them math, geography, and vocabulary in a fun new way. In Air Forte, players will learn on the fly where countries are located, which words are nouns, verbs, or adjectives, and which numbers are multiples of others. Air Forte doesn't reinvent the wheel, but it keeps it rolling with an appealing game that might just be what your kids need to strengthen their knowledge.
