So much so that for the better part of a year, we've been running a semi-regular series called Kickstarter Picks to highlight the best of the best of them. But have you ever wondered what happens to the games we profile after their fundraising time is up? In the case of Crystal Catacombs, a game we featured back in October, the answer isn't terribly uplifting.

Starting off the success of DoubleFine's promise to bring back classic adventures with Double Fine Adventure (and grabbing nearly $3.5 million dollars in fan funding), old and beloved developers are rushing back to their computers with the realization that Kickstarter gives them a chance to design again.     As if you need me to tell you: it's safe to say that we're officially in the midst of the Kickstarter craze. The tip of the iceberg came with Tim Schafer and Double Fine's wildly successful adventure game project and it's $3.3 Million raise. From there, the floodgates were open. Whether it was prominent industry members, independent developers, or first-time creators, people took to the internet hoping to join the gold rush, all driven by same unshakeable belief: Gamers wanted to fund games online.

    If there's anything that DoubleFine's incredible Kickstarter campaign proved for the videogames industry, it's that respected veterans of the business can receive ample funding from devoted fans. With big-name video/board game development titans like Eric Lee Smith (as far back as 1979's Bulge), John Butterfield (member of the game designer hall of fame) and David Dunham (King of Dragon Pass) coming together to create a Kickstarter for Battle of the Bulge, they're already off to a great start.
