    As anyone who has ever used the internet will tell you, Flash has been a pretty big deal. In fact, it seems fairly safe to say that Adobe Flash (or as it was known prior to 2005, Macromedia Flash) single-handedly made things like videos, animations, and browser-based gaming on the internet possible - or at the very least, accessible. When Steve Jobs (may he rest in peace) proclaimed that HTML5 would win out over Flash in the end, the very notion seemed laughable. Now however, it seems as though Jobs is having the last laugh.

    Last week, Facebook unveiled a major update to its mobile site. Along with all of the visual changes came some pretty big news for gamers: Facebook users could now play HTML5-based games on Facebook using their mobile phone. Nine games have been available since launch, and with a week to ponder, we decided it was time to dig a little deeper and analyze just what we thought of Facebook's HTML5 gaming.

    During my panel Hype vs Reality at Casual Connect this year (where panelists debate whether a game trend is hype or the real deal, watch it here), everyone on the panel proclaimed HTML5 hype. It will be big because it is write once, play everywhere, but not now.Well, HTML5 may become big sooner than later. Techcrunch has an interesting write-up on the Game Closure, which provides technology and SDK for developers to create HTML5-based multiplayer games on iOS, Android, and Facebook.In other HTML 5 news, GameSalad, a leading platform enabling anyone to create their own HTML 5 games with little or no programming experience, has their first big viral hit on their hands. Angry Anna is an Angry Birds-inspired game which takes on the subject of corruption in Indian politics.
