Based on Dean Takahashi's excellent article in VentureBeat, this is how game developers perceive the relationship between Facebook and Zynga. Whether a special partnership exists or not, according to Takahashi, the mere fact that rumors are swirling will have a huge impact on social gaming in the year to come --- for Zynga, Facebook, and if they play their cards right, Google.

    Last week, I speculated on what Google plans to do in terms of charging for distribution on Google Games which is coming out very shortly. Today, I spread rumors. I have heard from 3 anonymous developers in the past week that Google plans to charge 20% for micro-transactions within Google Games. This, of course, is 10% less than Facebook and their mandatory cut of 30% for Facebook Credits. If this is the case, Google is finally being smart about games and could be successful.

    Google released its latest social endeavour, Google+, this week. Unlike Google's past social attempts, Google+ is actually good, featuring a lot of what Facebook offers, Apple-inspired graphics, and a slick approach to friends and privacy ("Circles"). And according to Google's blog, they've only just begun.So, what's next? According to someone very geekly who tipped off Engadget, the source code on the Google+ site suggests it's Google Games and Questions. There literally is a reference to game invites in Google's source code.

    Citing the desire to make life easier for game developers and game players, Apple and Google have announced a landmark agreement to create a single open standard between iOS and Android devices so that it's "write once, play everywhere." Every game designed to run on an iPhone will perfectly run on an Android device."We don't want walled gardens," an Apple spokesperson said.

    Mark Pincus, CEO of Zynga, proclaimed at Web 2.0 that he wants to dog-activate the world. No, he is not talking about placing a Zynga microchip to tag every dog in the world. But what he is saying is no less ambitious. The plan next year is that whenever someone sees the cute Zynga dog logo, people will know that users are playing a social game. This, of course, is Zynga Live, and is going to Zynga's social gaming network, competitive with the social gaming offerings of Facebook, Google, DeNA, and the like.
