Advancements in technology are getting pretty scary these days, and I think it's safe to say that we're only a few short years away from being able to have our very own robot butler named Robo Jeeves. But for the time being, we have products like Google Glass to keep us fascinated with the complex digital world as it accentuates our actual lives more and more. And now, we even have a brand new word game to take us one step closer to becoming a full-fledged gaming Tom Cruise from Minority Report.Glu Mobile has pulled back the curtains on a new game called Spellista at the Google Glass Hackathon event in San Francisco this week, which will be the company's very first game developed exclusively for Google Glass. Described as an "interactive word puzzle game," Spellista challenges players to solve word scramble puzzles in nine different environments, through use of the innovative Glass technologies like the gyroscope, accelerometer, camera, and voice recognition capabilities. By using hands-free head controls, it almost goes without saying that Spellista is already shaping up to be one of the most immersive and high-tech word games in all of existence."But the overt coolness of the new Google Glass game doesn't even end there! Players will also be able to create and share their very own Spellista levels with their friends wherever they go by using Glu Mobile's own "Glass-to-Glass sharing" feature, which makes further use of the hardware's camera and voice commands. In speaking about the innovative new gaming project that was developed as part of the GDK beta program for Google Glass, Glu Mobile CEO Niccolo de Masi had this to say: "Spellista represents a major shift in interactive digital content and we are proud to support Google as a Glass beta partner."You can see a screenshot of how Spellista will coordinate with your real-world surroundings right within this page, but in order to get the full experience, you'll want to get out your Google Glass and give it a go yourself! For those of you who own the latest innovative technology, Spellista can be downloaded by going through Google Glass right over here.

Yup, you read that right: Kim Kardashian will have a mobile game in 2014.The E! reality TV star will be teaming up with Glu Mobile of Contract Killer and Deer Hunter fame to create a brand new celebrity lifestyle game about, what else, but living the glamorous Hollywood life. The game will include both Kim Kardashian's likeness and voice, as she mentors players by giving fashion tips and career advice on their way to becoming a full-fledged celebrity themselves."Alongside the announcement, Glu CEO Niccolo de Masi has stated: "We look forward to leveraging Kim Kardashian's brand and fan base of 18 million Twitter followers, 15 million Facebook fans, and 11 million Instagram followers." In addition, de Masi says, "We anticipate that the combination of Kim's creative input with Glu's leading development and publishing platform will create a uniquely compelling celebrity game experience."
If the market for mobile games in North America wasn't competitive enough on the strength of games developed on this continent, here's an undeniable fact that was apparent during the first few days of E3 2013: more games are on their way from overseas.
Glu Mobile, the freemium developer behind such popular gaming franchises as Gun Bros. and Frontline Commando, has announced a partnership today with Skillz to bring real-money betting and gambling to their mobile games for U.S. players going forward. The first game to go live with the Skillz-powered platform of cash tournaments will be Deer Hunter Reloaded on Android devices. This continues the growing trend in our industry of game developers dipping their feet into the gambling waters.
As we discussed in an article a few weeks back, the online gambling boom is fast approaching. States like New Jersey and Delaware have made significant inroads towards legalizing it in their regions, and all signs point to more states (or possibly even the federal government) following suit. So, with such massive change coming, what better time to peruse a lengthy infographic on the subject?
Hear that whooshing sound? It's the sound of something rushing in to fill a vacuum - except that the "something" in this case is social and mobile gaming companies, and the vacuum is the market for real money gambling games in the Unites States.
