X-Mercs: Invasion gets some new screens, looks decidedly XCOM-y
By Jim Squires
It was just two weeks ago when free-to-play powerhouse Game Insight announced they were working on a game that sounds suspsiciously like XCOM. Promising a strategy simulation where you assemble a band of mercenaries to fight off an alien, as well as using their weapons to forge your own, it wasn't hard to see where X-Mercs: Invasion was drawing inspiration from. But considering how well they pulled off Tank Domination - a game that looked an awful lot like World of Tanks - we're not complaining.Earlier today, Game Insight posted new screenshots to the game's Facebook page (joining the few that were already there) to show off the gameplay in a bit more detail. Thanks to these, we can say for sure that it's an XCOM-alike - and we can also say that it looks pretty fantastic.Hit the jump for a bunch more.X-Mercs sounds like XCOM on your iPad (assuming you don’t own XCOM on your iPad)
By Steven Strom
Firaxis did an amazing job resurrecting the XCOM (or X-COM, if you prefer) with Enemy Unknown. Now that their alien invasion strategy simulation has its own outstanding port on iOS, it was only a matter of time before imitators made their way to the platform as well. With a name like X-Mercs: Invasion, developer Game Insight isn't making any bones about where its inspiration comes from."In X-Mercs: Invasion, players will spearhead their very own military campaign," the developer's press release reads "by assembling an army of the finest mercenary soldiers in the world, constructing a military base, and researching and converting alien tech into deadly weapons to use against their extraterrestrial creators."Become a master con artist in Game Insight’s Incredible Heist
By Joe Jasko
From the creators of the captivating and hugely successful Mystery Manor, Game Insight's Incredible Heist is a brand new hidden object game with a devious twist. Said to usher in the "next generation of hidden object games," Incredible Heist will have players assuming the role of an amateur con artist, as they travel to gorgeous environments all over the world and do what aspiring con artists do best: pick locks, solve puzzles, and above all else, loot from the most magnificent of treasures! In fact, there's so much treasure looting involved that a storyline will begin to unfold involving the retrieval of mysterious artifacts called Cryptexes. When all of these hidden Cryptexes are collected, it is rumored that the secrets of the ancient Thieves Guild will be unearthed once and for all. In addition to the main hidden object gameplay with a side of good thieving fun, players can also form impressive item collections as well as complete a number of mini-games.While Game Insight hasn't given out an official release date just yet, Incredible Heist will be coming to iPad in the near future. According to the game's official website, it also would appear that a Facebook version is in the cards somewhere down the road as well. In either case, there's one thing that we know for sure right now: this game is gearing up to be quite the steal! The Tribez goes medieval in The Tribez & Castlez
By Jim Squires
Love The Tribez, but wish you had more of it? Consider your wish granted. Game Insight has just announced The Tribez & Castlez, the first spin-off from The Tribez which will send Aurora and the Professor to another world full of magic and medieval wonder in early 2014.The game will still embrace The Tribez city-building ways, but with a fantasy theme rather than a prehistoric one. Dinosaurs are all well and good, but you can expect both dungeons and dragons this time around. And that's not all - Game Insight has told us that players can expect everything from werewolves to Trollums (which I'm assuming is Tribez-speak for trolls OR a delicious nougat-filled candy). No specific release date has been confirmed yet, but when The Tribez & Castlez does come out you can expect to play it on iOS, Android and Facebook.Escape a Gothic gauntlet in Running Shadow’s debut trailer
By Joe Jasko
We've been salivating for more information ever since Game Insight first announced their fierce new endless runner with a dark overtone this past September. The biggest draw of Running Shadow is that the game aims to take that recognizable endless runner gameplay and infuse it together with core role playing elements: all set against the dismal, yet beautiful backdrop of a Gothic-themed world. So basically, it's pretty much the closest we'll ever get right now to playing a Castlevania endless runner. But that was back when we only had a few measly screenshots to look at. Now a long-awaited gameplay trailer has finally entered the fold…Actually seeing the game in action for the first time, everything about The Running Shadow's mysterious and, well, shadowy lore immediately makes perfect sense. You'll be speeding your way through foreboding castle interiors and dodging all sorts of deadly gauntlet traps like rows of spikes or fire columns. You'll be encountering the fiercest of foes, from dastardly mages to ax-wielding knights. And of course, you'll be running along a crumbling stone bridge with some ominous talons gripping at the edge.So needless to say, we're more than a little stoked to make our way through The Running Shadow's gorgeously stylized world. The game is currently slated to launch on iOS and Android platforms sometime in early 2014, and in the meantime you can check out the game's newly launched website for some more Gothic fun!Game Insight unveils new hidden object adventure, Hotel Enigma
By Joe Jasko
Hunting for hidden objects in a dusty and elaborate manor has become a pastime that's as old as all of space and time. But now that we've had our fair share of searching through the creepiest and most mysterious of mansions, it was only a matter of time before we set our sights on a different location: an enigmatic hotel. To this end, Game Insight has just announced a brand new hidden object adventure called Hotel Enigma, in which players will not only be searching for objects around some rich and photorealistic hotel settings, but also taking a step into some completely alternate dimensions along the way as well!Coming to us from the same team behind the fantastic Mystery Manor and Mirrors of Albion, the upcoming Hotel Enigma is gearing up to bring hidden object gamers another whimsical adventure that's brimming with intrigue and dozens of puzzles. The game initially takes place in a quiet inn along the idyllic Ireland hillsides, before events escalate and expand into multiple dimensions (I just knew those weirdos living above me were from a different world!). And the only thing more enthralling than the hidden object gameplay is the captivating storyline full of strange and exciting hotel guests and other characters.Players themselves will actually be able to travel between these different dimensions by means of a magical suitcase, as they try and track down a mysterious stranger who went missing from the hotel shortly before their arrival. Much like other Game Insight hidden object adventures, Hotel Enigma will feature countless colorful hidden object scenes, as players can craft special tool items to help speed up their progress towards completing sets of rare artifact collectables.Game Insight's Hotel Enigma will be released on iPad and Facebook sometime before the year is up: just make sure you check your luggage at the door, because you wouldn't want your things being taken to another dimension, now would you?Big Business Deluxe Review
By John Anthony
Big Business Deluxe is a follow-up to Game Insight's 2010 simulation title Big Business, a Facebook game that leaped to the mobile world with no shortage of applause. The sequel keeps the basic framework the same as the original, only now there's more of pretty much everything! And if you played Big Business, you know that's a very big deal.Big Business Deluxe can broadly be described as a city building game combined with Farm Frenzy and doled out in short, free-to-play doses. The game places heavy emphasis on creating structures that produce basic items that are then transformed into more complex (and more valuable) things. For example, growing grain on a farm, and then turning it into flour. Instead of simply tapping icons to make things and turn a profit, you have to concern yourself with all the little details of the city/business, such as where the warehouses are and what kind of trucks are running. It sounds like a mess, but it's strangely captivating once you get the hang of it."As you slowly gain money, unlock new buildings, and improve old ones, you get the wonderful honor of being able to expand your city's footprint by purchasing adjacent parcels of land. Not only does this give you additional space, but it can also uncover nice rewards in the form of new buildings, new quests, or other small rewards. It's a nice incentive to reach out and seize property as soon as you can!Big Business Deluxe Walkthrough
