Zombie Mosh Review
Much like the flesh-dripping living corpses themselves, the zombie phenomenon refuses to die. We've seen zombies take over the world in multiple movies, we've seen zombies annihilated by defensive suburban flora, and even one of this year's best console games featured a decidedly non-sequitur zombie expansion pack. And now Facebook has Zombie Mosh, which mixes the rocking undead with various elements of Frontierville and Nightclub City. The concept has undeniable charm and the friendly developers plan to release additional features as the beta progresses, but it's hard to see this as more than a novelty game that should have been scheduled for a Halloween release.
CaveTown Review
CaveTown is one of those games that technically functions and is playable, but contains absolutely no originality. Unless you're looking to relive all of your past experiences with FrontierVille (down to the letter) but in an even earlier timeframe, you're better off sticking with the original - the game that did it first, and the game that does it best.
Paradise Life Preview
We've been here before. Sure, we clobbered snakes instead of crabs and took quests from a grizzled forty-niner instead of an Ariel-inspired mermaid, but Paradise Life is so close in design and play style to Zynga's celebrated Frontierville that it might as well be an island-themed mod. Of course, this also means it's fun. If you were never comfortable living out your days as a hardscrabble settler digging up grass and rocks in the Old West, you may enjoy digging up grass and rocks on your own island. Social gaming beach bums, rejoice: This is the game for you.
CityVille Preview
As a kid, I'll always remember the first time I encountered New York City. Driving in the back seat of the family car up Interstate 95, I recall staring at the Manhattan skyscrapers in awe as they rose over the horizon into the skyline. Yesterday afternoon, Zynga gave me a sneak peak of its upcoming game, CityVille. It wasn't the exact same feeling as staring at Manhattan for the first time, but it sure comes close.
