EA’s upcoming Theme Park has premium rides that cost nearly $100
When we first caught wind that the seminal simulation title Theme Park would be getting a freemium makeover for the App Store, we met the news with a mix of nervousness and excitement. Thanks to an early Canadian release, we've now had a chance to hands on with the upcoming park management title. Whether good or bad, there's really only one word that can sum of the time we've had with the game: expensive.
Homerun Heroes Review
It's time to play a little baseball with the Game Ventures developed Facebook title Homerun Heroes. A mix of the common team management style of social sports play and more twitch-based reactions, the game is not so much a true baseball app as it is more a hybrid of homerun derby and the actual sport. Incorporating more unique aspects of play than most social sports games, Homerun Heroes is more interesting than most, but other than this novelty, it lacks any real reward for play.
Happy Kingdom Review
If only all game names were as clear as Happy Kingdom, in which the goal is to create, well, a happy kingdom. It's a CityVille-style game set in a fantasy world that sticks pretty close to the established city building formula. But there are a few new additions in keeping with the thematic change, and some are very welcome, such as the inclusion of a deeper story with recognizable characters. But with its slow rate of progression, it'll be a while before you can see all of what Happy Kingdom has to offer.
Caveman Land Review
Just because cavemen (and women) had to hunt for food with spears and build homes out of rocks doesn't mean they weren't civilized. And in Caveman Land it's your job to build up a pre-history civilization. It's a title that plays a lot like other city building social games, only with a new theme and the addition of hunting. It may not be particularly original, but Caveman Land is definitely a charming, well crafted game experience.
LAST WAR Review
They say the dogs of war never sleep, but some dogs are best left lying. Gamevil takes a stab at freemium gaming on iOS, but playing through Last War is like fighting a losing battle.
Being Human Review
Let's be honest, there's nothing tough about being a games reviewer - it's a fun job most of the time. However, games slapped together as part of a marketing campaign for movies and TV series are usually the bane of my existence. Therefore, it gives me great pleasure to be able to recommend SyFy's Facebook companion to Being Human. The presentation cuts a few corners, but the gameplay is surprisingly entertaining.
Treasure Quest HD Review
For a brief time after Treasure Isle's initial flush of glory, treasure hunting games all but choked Facebook. Now you see them less frequently, which makes seeing a fresh take on the genre like Treasure Quest HD all the more special. Treasure Quest HD combines the basic play mechanics of a Facebook treasure hunt game with the trappings of RPGs. So instead of yet another greedy island-dweller, in Treasure Quest HD you play as a wizard that's illuminating areas of a mysterious map. There are the typical gates to unlock with brightly-colored crystals, but also monsters to defeat with magic spells, NPCs to help, and quests to fulfill.
