Empires & Allies: Zynga LA’s mission to bring hardcore DNA to the social space (Casual Connect)
When Zynga LA began work on Empires & Allies, they were looking to bring a hardcore game to a social platform. Nearly everyone at the studio had a pedigree in console games, and most of them worked primarily on real-time strategy (RTS) games in the past. But bringing that experience to the casual market proved to be a tough balancing act, and Executive Producer Amer Ajami and Director of Product Hans Yang hosted a panel on the subject.

Zynga tackles RPGs with upcoming Kingdoms & Quests
Adventure World is the next release from Zynga, but even though it doesn't even have a launch date details about the developer's next next game are already slipping out. Called Kingdoms & Quests, the game is currently in an Australia-only beta, tand looks to be Zynga's first foray into the world of fantasy role playing games.
King’s Bounty: Legions now in open beta on Facebook
Well that didn't take long. A week after the game headed into a closed-beta, strategy game King's Bounty: Legions is now open to all Facebook users.

Sean Ryan, the "games" guy at Facebook, gave a presentation on Facebook ecosystem at Casual Connect. According to Sean, social games have "won," given the fact that the only game companies to sell out for a high price (more than $100 million) or going public are social game companies. Citing Zynga, Playfish, Playdom, Open Feint, PopCap Games, he raises a good point. More interestingly, Sean pontificated on the game genres he wish he'd see more of on Facebook.
Facebook video calling could lead to improved multiplayer gaming
Just last week, I was playing a game of Vorp, a competitive action game on Facebook, with the developers. Most of the players were on Skype, and so we were able to both coordinate with team members and trash talk opponents. Video and voice chat is a common feature in many multiplayer games, and with today's news that Skype video calls are coming to Facebook, it could well become a common part of social games, too.
Empires & Allies conquers FarmVille with over 40 million monthly users
Well that didn't take long. According to numbers from AppData, in just its first month Zynga's latest game, Empires & Allies, has already surpassed FarmVille as the second most popular game on Facebook.
