    It looks like Australia is shaping up to be a large source of news in the mobile and social gaming industry. Less than two months back, KIXEYE announced their new development studio down under. Today, gaming supergiant Electronic Arts is happy to announce the unification of two of Australia's biggest developers into their new name: Iron Monkey and Firemint are combining to become Australia's largest game development company: FireMonkey.

    According to the rumor in a Bloomberg video report this morning, South Korean free-to-play giant Nexon made a bid to purchase North American game developer, Electronic Arts. While this news in itself is pretty unexpected, the fallout so far has been equally surprising.

    It wasn't that long ago that we heard about Battlefield 3: Aftershock being removed from the App Store, and subsequently being shut down as of March 31st. The game was panned by everyone (including us), cited as being a buggy mess and a dark mark on the Battlefield franchise. Even more recently however, we have learned that EA is planning to pull the plug on two more iOS games: the social releases Fantasy Safari and Ghost Harvest.

    Battlefield 3: Aftershock was one of the most anticipated iOS games of the year, and once it was released, it turned out to be one of the most disappointing. Terrible is really the only word that begins to describe it. Our own reviewer even went so far as to say that EA has "irrevocably damaged the Battlefield brand for a lot of fans." As it turns out, EA was listening, and they've now pulled the game from the App Store based on customer complaints.
