    Last month EA filed a lawsuit against Zynga, alleging that the company plagiarized and repurposed several aspects of Sims Social in their similar game The Ville. Not until today has Zynga responded, and as these matters tend to go, they're denying the allegations and bringing forth a few of their own.

    Hearing someone call Zynga a copycat is old news. Whether or not Zynga "draws inspiration" or "flat-out rips off" from other popular titles has been a debate for years. For the first time, however, Zynga appears to have an opponent with the financial capital to challenge the social games giant in a court of law. That opponent goes by the name of EA, and they've officially sued Zynga and The Ville for copyright infringement.

    In a recent interview with GamesIndustry, EA Labels president Frank Gibeau expressed his certainty in the company becoming "100% digital." As bold as it sounds at first blush, it isn't necessarily a change in direction for the company. They've been heavily invested in mobile and social platforms for a while now, and it's proven to be a massive success for them financially. And let's not forget the launch of the Origin platform.

    After the Zynga acquisition of Draw Something creator OMGPOP, all eyes have been turning to the company's rivals to gauge their reactions. In the case of EA at least, the response has been little more than a yawn and a dismissive wave of the hand. According to EA Corporate Communications rep John Reseburg, buying up unproven properties really doesn't mean much.
