Papaya Mobile, a mobile social networking platform for Android phones, announced that it has grown to 25 million users, up 940% since January 2010.Of course, the majority of gamers for Papaya's social mobile games are not paying a penny, but the ones who are are paying relatively more than what one would see on other social networks such as Facebook.The average revenue per paying Papaya user is $22.60 a month and there have been 11 million transactions with Papaya's virtual currency.

    While there's no official confirmation from either Zynga or Astro Ape, it looks like the studio behind mobile social successes like Monsterz Revenge and Office Heroes has just become the latest acquisition by the social gaming giant. How do we know? Astro Ape's CEO Chieh Huang, as well as several other staffers, have just updated their Linked In profiles to show their place of employment as "Zynga NY."

    If you were a doubter that 2011 will be the year of social mobile, two announcements today should relieve you of any doubt. First of all, Pocket Gems, makers of the Tap series of social games on the iPhone announced they have raised $5 million in funding led by Sequoia Capital. Pocket Gems games include Tap Zoo, Tap Farm, Tap Jungle and have been downloaded more than 15 million times. $5 million and 15 million downloads…those are big numbers!
