Remember Kentucky Route Zero? I sure hope so. It was our pick for 2013 Game of the Year, and not without good reason. That said, only the first two acts of five have been released, and considering the "it'll be ready when it's ready" response the studio has given for questions about Act III, it seemed like we might be waiting a while longer.Good news… we're not! Kentucky Route Zero Act III has now been released into the wild. If you already own the game on a season pass (and if you own the game, you absolutely do) you should be able to grab the game now. Steam buyers will receive it as an automatic update, while those who purchased through the Humble Store will need to tackle their download manually. But enough chatter - it's time to get a David Lynch kinda weird up in here.
Here's an interesting development that Kentucky Route Zero fans probably weren't expecting. Series creators Cardboard Computer - who earlier this year told their fans that it was too big a project to really give an ETA - may now in fact have an ETA!The team took to Twitter on March 29 to answer questions in a very tongue-in-cheek Magic 8-Ball sort of way. Much to my surprise, they provided a pretty solid answer to the following question from @HotAndSpicyMilk: "Act III before May 31, 2014?""signs point to yes."Magic 8-Ball's aren't infallible, and if the team behind Kentucky Route Zero: Act III is to be believed, it's a big enough game that unforeseen delays might be par for the course. That said, having a release window - any release window - is an exciting development from a studio who has publicly shunned them after their experiences announcing dates for Act I and Act II.Here's to hoping we're back on the Zero before summer solstice hits. Something tells me that'll be a weird place after that. Well… weirder, anyway.
We love Kentucky Route Zero here at Gamezebo. Love love. It was our pick for 2013 Game of the Year, and that was based solely on the first two acts (of a planned five). And like most fans of the game, we've been waiting for Act III to surface so that we can continue the story. And it's been a long wait. Act II was released at the end of May 2013.So what's the hold up?The developers at Cardboard Computer recently took to their blog to explain the situation, reassuring everyone that development is coming along swimmingly (and when it comes out, it will have been worth the wait):
If you harbor any concerns as to whether or not your computer can handle Kentucky Route Zero, you should probably download Limits and Demonstrations. And if you've already played through Kentucky Route Zero's first act (and enjoyed it), you should still probably download Limits and Demonstrations. It's free, and functions as both a graphics card test for the uninitiated and companion piece for the fans. Everybody wins!
