Solitaire Kingdom Quest is, as you can probably surmise from the title, a medieval themed solitaire card game. The flavor of solitaire in question is Klondike, which is the typical version that we've all seen. The game is the follow-up to the super-popular Solitaire Kingdom, and seems to add in a lot of the stuff we've seen in the Slingo Quest series as well.
It's exciting to be a board game fan and touch screen owner these days. It seems that with every passing day, more and more game makers are getting on the bandwagon and releasing digital versions of their new board games on the iOS devices. When Elder Signs hit stores, the digital version hit at almost the same exact time! That being said, it's nice when they give older games some love as well. Enter the worker placement "classic" Caylus.
All hands on deck! There's a gnomish emergency 20,000 leagues below the sea! Or at least there will be later this month. That's when Fierce Wombat Games will be making their much anticipated debut on the scene with a digital adaptation of Fantasy Flight Games' Red November.
Yet another card game is making its way to Facebook with a new release from social developer MegaZebra. Solitaire Castle is the latest addition to the company's gaming collection and like many of the more recent card-based titles before it, centers itself around solitaire. Moving away from traditional solitaire, it is more reminiscent of both spider solitaire and web versions of mahjong. Puzzle-centric, the game is entertaining for those that enjoy such apps, but other than offering new puzzles, it brings nothing particularly impressive to the genre.
As a lover of card and board games, I've been quite lucky with all the fantastic ports I've seen show up on iOS devices. Literal translations of existing games have been a great asset, since they're typically super cheap compared to the real world ones and you always have an opponent in the AI. But I've been sort of hoping for a game that could take the card game aspects I love and infuse it with something only a digital format could offer. I seemed to have gotten my wish with Assassin's Creed Recollection.
Card games are often a great fit for the web. They don't take much time and can be a lot of fun strategically. Pangalore is looking to capitalize on that with its newly released Facebook title of WildWest Solitaire. Though the game of Solitaire is a bit dated, Pangalore is mixing it up with the PC game of Spider Solitaire and combining it with Mahjong and a western them. Nevertheless, while the application contains some good ideas, it ultimately comes off as rather dull and repetitious.
Mahjong Dimensions Deluxe: Tiles in Time takes the basic concept of the first Mahjong Dimensions and expands it into a game that will be a treat for PC mahjong fans. WhereMahjong Dimensions was basically Mahjong Blitz, Tiles in Time challenges you to run a gauntlet of mahjong patterns in order to "unlock" an object that's been lost in time. You begin searching for dinosaurs, then move on to other period-appropriate objects as you travel into eras like Ancient Egypt, Feudal Japan, and (eventually) the future.
Tigris and Euphrates is, to boutique board game players, the very definition of a classic. When it's considered one of a designer's best efforts, and that designer is famous for making excellent games, then you know you're getting something special. A digital port of this much beloved classic was a risky move, if it didn't live up to the standard set it was really going to fall on its face. Luckily developer Codito has done an excellent job.
