    Zynga’s still buying companies, they just forgot to mention it

    Back in August, we reported that Zynga may have acquired Astro Ape Studios. All of the signs were there. The company had made some great mobile social games, and the CEO and other employees had updated their LinkedIn profiles to say they worked at Zynga NY. But asides from this one small act, no official confirmation ever came. At least, not until now - and it turns out Astro Ape isn't the only acquisition Zynga didn't tell us about in recent months.

    While there's no official confirmation from either Zynga or Astro Ape, it looks like the studio behind mobile social successes like Monsterz Revenge and Office Heroes has just become the latest acquisition by the social gaming giant. How do we know? Astro Ape's CEO Chieh Huang, as well as several other staffers, have just updated their Linked In profiles to show their place of employment as "Zynga NY."

    Recently, we've all seen a lot of invectives lobbed back and forth between hardcore gaming shops and social gaming insiders. Both have claimed the death knell will soon be rung for the opposite side. For the record, I think that both sides are completely off the mark. Social games and hardcore games will all continue to do quite well in their respective realms of the gaming world. Here's why:

    DeNA's expansion to the west is really picking up steam lately. After an investment in Aurora Feint, the Japanese social giant acquired both IceBreaker and GameView Labs. Now, only a week after the GameView acquisition, DeNA has announced another big investment: Astro Ape.
