    Let's face facts: Apple is involved in a lot of lawsuits. Whether they're being sued for infringing on somebody else's patents or they're suing to defend their own, the number of litigations the company is involved in at any one time can't possibly be counted on fingers and toes. That's part of the reason we don't normally cover them here on Gamezebo - reporting on Apple lawsuits would be like writing an article about the sun coming up every morning. But when a company cites a science fiction film from 1968 as the basis for their argument? That's a story that's hard to pass up.

    When Nintendo unveiled the Wii U at E3 2011 yesterday, our first impression of the device's "keep gaming on your controller without the TV" functionality was that it seemed a little like a reverse version of Apple's AirPlay, but for games. Now Apple is blasting back, albeit indirectly. Top iOS developer Firemint has just announced that Real Racing 2 HD will soon be playable on your TV, using the iPad 2 as your controller. This startling development will all be made possible thanks to the features found in AirPlay, Apple TV, and iOS 5.

    When Apple de-emphasized the impact on downloads in its AppStore ranking algorithm this past week, they also reportedly decided to clamp down on incentivized download programs, such as Tapjoy, W3i, and Flurry. Based on numerous reports (see sources at the end of this article for more details), Apple is rejecting developers who submit apps with offers walls and incentivized offer programs, on the grounds that they are violating section 3.10 of the developer guidelines, which basically states that you can't "game" the system. For good or naught, these changes are creating ripple effects on multi-million dollar incentivized apps market, discovery, and the entire eco-system around developing freemium games for the iOS platform.

    Citing the desire to make life easier for game developers and game players, Apple and Google have announced a landmark agreement to create a single open standard between iOS and Android devices so that it's "write once, play everywhere." Every game designed to run on an iPhone will perfectly run on an Android device."We don't want walled gardens," an Apple spokesperson said.

    Kim-Mai Cutler at Inside Mobile Apps has written an interesting piece that Facebook and Apple are on a collision course over payments. Facebook and Apple look like they are making moves out of each other's playbook. Both have announced that they will take a 30% cut of sales (virtual items and subscriptions) from apps distributed on their platforms. Where it gets interesting is where their platforms converge.
