    Amazon launches Appstore for Android

    Amazon.com, the leading e-retailer on the Web, has officially launched it's Appstore for Android. Amazon's previous foray into casual games, buying Reflexive Entertainment for its studio and distribution technology, didn't pan out so well. Amazon.com is not exactly on the same level of Big Fish Games or Valve's Steam when it comes to digital distribution. But, the Android Marketplace could be a lot more successful.

    Kim-Mai Cutler at Inside Mobile Apps has written an interesting piece that Facebook and Apple are on a collision course over payments. Facebook and Apple look like they are making moves out of each other's playbook. Both have announced that they will take a 30% cut of sales (virtual items and subscriptions) from apps distributed on their platforms. Where it gets interesting is where their platforms converge.

    Gamification last week, Inside Social Apps this week. No wonder we don't get anything done! As always, Inside Social Apps was a good conference for social games. Though if you didn't know it's impossible for any small games company to make it on Facebook, that the next big thing is mobile social on the iPhone, and the next big thing after that is Android, then you probably being too slow to be in our fast-paced industry to begin with. Personally, I try to skip the panels and talk to the people in the street, or the hallway, in this case. My notes on the conference are below the fold.

Mixed into a week filled with announcements about their upcoming next gen portable device, codenamed NGP, Sony has unveiled the next platform that will play host to the PlayStation brand - and for the first time ever, it's not a platform that's owned by Sony.

    File this story under strange by true. We have heard many stories of how Apple has rejected or not approved apps because they did not meet Apple's terms (code for, not fit with Apple's business requirements), but never Google. With Android, Google has an open system and everything, including adult-entertainment, gets through, until now. And, the first app to get removed from Android by Google is…a flash game app by Kongregate?
