I wasn't supposed to review dream:scape. That may sound like a strange opening sentence to lead with, but once you've read about the circumstances that led to this review, you'll probably get a pretty clear indication of why that's relevant. You see, the person who was supposed to review dream:scape couldn't get it to run. He tried on two completely different iOS devices, but it just wouldn't go. Judging from the comments on iTunes he's far from alone. And while I managed to get dream:scape to work, there's a big part of me that wishes I hadn't.
The folks at Telltale games definitely know a thing or two about cliffhangers, and the one they left us with at the end of Puzzle Agent was a doozy. Unlike their other games, though, Puzzle Agent was never pitched as an episodic series. As such, we were a little worried that the crazy mystery of Scoggins Minnesota - the eraser capital of the world - might never get resolved. It looks like we can put that worry behind us now, as Agent Nelson Tethers of the US Department of Puzzle Research will be back and on the case in Puzzle Agent 2.

When last we looked in on dream:scape back in April, the upcoming Unreal-powered adventure was already undergoing the Apple approval process. The developers at Speedbump hit a speed bump of their own, however, as a memory bug caused them to go back to the drawing board and smooth things out. Now that everything has come together, the team behind dream:scape have pushed out a new video, screenshots, description - and best of all - a release date.
There's just something about social games that keeps attracting celebrities. Musicians, in particular, seem to love Facebook games, with everyone from Lady Gaga to Jimmy Buffett starring in a game of their own. And now we can add country music superstars like Rascal Flatts and Big & Rich to that list, as Country Music Television has teamed up with Heatwave Interactive to release a new Facebook game called Platinum Life: Country.
Progress. It's inevitable and generally, it's a good thing. Video games are no exception. Over the years, production values have continued to climb and along with them, developers have also refined the techniques that wow gamers. But for all the good that progress brings, there is a price to be paid and some of us find ourselves yearning for simpler times. Enter Avadon, an homage to old-school gameplay in an age where graphics reign supreme. It might not appeal to everyone, but those with the urge to go dungeon exploring will find that Avadon is more than enough to quench their thirst for adventure.
There is an argument by some that video games simply cannot be art. I disagree. Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I'd like to present exhibit A, Samorost 2, The game, which launched on the PC several years ago and just recently popped up on the Mac App Store, is far too short and it doesn't break any barriers, but it's a joy to play all the same. Why should you play Samorost 2? Put simply, because it's an entertaining, unique experience that you'd be hard-pressed to find in any other game.
